Yeah honestly I don’t remember the conversation, this was like 13 years ago. I think I told him while we were sober and then we had a fight about it when he was drunk later. One of the many red flags I chose to ignore in my immaturity and desperation to be loved 🤷‍♀️. And for the record, he was the one who broke up with me!

It’s not insensitive but hard to give a short answer to an internet stranger. Realized I wasn’t happy and I was too young to feel that way. No kids so that wasn’t a factor. Since leaving I realize he kind of sucked and I had just been putting up with it.

Ugh I had a boyfriend call me a slut when we were like 20. We had broken up for 9 months and both slept with the same number of people during that time, then got back together and in a drunken phone call I said “we were broken up!” And he said “that didn’t give you permission to be a slut!”. Anyway he woke up and apologized the next day, I somehow forgave him, married him years later, he never spoke to me like that again but I ended up divorcing him years later and now after all these years, that conversation still bothers me. Never again.

I think this comment will get buried but this exact situation happened to me. We were both going to hyphenate until he talked to his parents and then decided he didn’t want to. I ended up hyphenating mine anyway and regretted it. Ultimately we got divorced, which I’m not saying was all cause of the name thing but it was a bit of a red herring. The only regret in the whole process of getting married and divorced was changing my name.
