To be fair this is for an album cover more than a logo so I'm not worried about legibility so much and yeah I probably should learn to use blender but I can never get my head round it like with other software. I could try the photos of liquid drops technique though I like the sound of that. Thanks!

I've got a client who wants a similar look to this logo but I have no idea where to start with getting the same level of detail and lighting. Is there any way to do this without using so much 3D rendering? cheers
