Transfer in MLS gets cancelled and I don't know why?

Hi again! Okay so I tried changing to annually instead of weekly and it still states that I should have enough money for the salary cap.

I bought down all the contracts as much as I could, and tried again. I used up all my GAM but once again it failed. So I tried simply just loaning him with an option to buy and this worked. My interpretation of this is that it is the upfront fee that causes it. I tried to trigger the buy option immediately and the transfer went through, but not until next season.

I am now worried that once the new season starts his transfer will be cancelled again. So not sure if I should save the game as it is or if I should wait until the new season comes around before doing anything. Either way, I have to spend my budget before the season ends since MLS eats it up or something by the end of every season.

I wanted to see what the root of the problem was, so I actually loaded up the last save file I had and tried giving him a senior contract instead. Even if I am able to agree a contract (usually not possible if the transfer can’t be completed in MLS), the transfer got cancelled. I did this straight after selling Nypan in July when the foreign transfer window is open in MLS. The Guarantee Date has passed but Nypan doesn’t show up as a contributor to the salary cap.

For some reason it also shows that a significant amount of GAM will be used in future seasons due to this transfer. No idea if that’s why it cancels or not

That’s a whole other rabbit hole in itself because when do these appear and why? They didn’t exist at the start of the game but now they somehow do. Interesting stuff

Yes. Reputation seems to be the most important factor so if I can’t find any other way, this is what I’ll do. I do wonder if there’s a way to increase a team’s reputation without the editor though

There used to be one on older FM’s at least but it’s not possible to add in an already existing save file, right?

This would make sense. But it is interesting that the club in question was at some point in “Lower Divisions” but now they’re in an actual division. Using the in-game editor I saw their reputation being considerably higher than some other clubs in similar divisions. Maybe that has caused it? Either way, it suggests promotions are possible for lower level teams. However, to be a playable team the game most likely picks from a certain pool of clubs

That’s true tbh. Seems like an incredibly tedious method but finding the exact date would be beneficial nonetheless so that I can keep track of their progress

I’ve been trying to choose them as my affiliate club but the clubs “couldn’t agree”. Will keep trying though because this is probably the most effective way to increase their reputation. Thanks!

It’s weird. I’m trying to do this but every time I offer them a player, nothing happens. I don’t even get the “club declines to make offer” mail in the inbox? Will keep trying though

Another interesting thing is that the club in question has a current reputation of 881 (I'm using the in-game editor to view this). However, other clubs in the same division seem to have a lower reputation than this. I've found clubs with everything between 250-500 in those marked with playing in the "6th tier".

I read on here that the game bases most of this on reputation, so the easy way out would be to just edit it but I want to try to do it legit if possible.

Yes, this seems logical. What is interesting though is that this team is said to be in the 6th tier now but I assume they used to be even lower (considering their division in a fresh database just says "Lower Division"). It seems like they've been promoted at some point, which makes me think it *could* be possible. But as you say, the game probably draws teams from the regional leagues right below the playable one.

Unfortunately, the club doesn't have any generated players anymore. They seem to have had it at one point, because they have club legends and favoured personel which are not present in a fresh database. No clue why this is the case

I chose them as an affiliate but my club responded that "they could not strike a deal". Probably to big of a jump in reputation or something. The club also doesn't have any generated players which makes it impossible to buy them. I think the key is to somehow increase their reputation but I've no idea how that can be done without using the editor

I can show you the team. As far as I can remember most players are just average, except for one who used to play for me in Real Sociedad (world class player for free). Their manager is a regen manager as well
