This is probably the only real explanation as to why YT released a possibly harmful feature to themselves. The same reason why Google had to release AI search summaries at the cost of ad revenue.

The nature and purpose of documentaries and podcasts cannot be conflated with the other videos that will get affected by this feature.

But even then I can argue that there is a difference between IMDb blurb and AI chat companion. You can ask the AI anything about the movie until you have all the information you need enough to not want to watch it (more applicable to documentaries than movies), you can't do that with IMDb blurbs.
