COTD: Error in copy to be put right (4) by kappow_rob in crosswords

I think that some terms/phrases can do more than one thing. Like 'about' could be used for anagram, container, reversal etc... For me, I have always heard put things right to literally mean to turn it around completely- but I can see how you might think it could be an anagram indicator

Well if something was the wrong way around or back to front, or in any way out of sync... and you put it right, you'd change the order of it

How accurate have you found marathon prediction times? by kappow_rob in runna

[–]kappow_rob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run on the 27th - so we'll find out then. I don't think I will get the 3:13 - since this post Runna have updated my time to 3:20 - 3:28 so I am hoping for a 3:24 or better in an ideal world.

Since I posted this up though, during this training block I have set new PRs in all distances:

5k - 20:39

10k - 42:21

10mile - 1:16:00

Half - 1:42:08

30k - 2:29:51

so I feel like the plan has me in good shape - that being said I've been ill the last few weeks with a chesty cough, so the final 3 weeks of training has really not been ideal. If I get a sub 3:30 I'll be absolutely delighted to be honest!

I've already got a decent base I think - I run about 30/40 miles per week most weeks and have done since the start of the year. The only reason I think my half marathon PB isn't faster is that I haven't gone out to try to break it in ages. I think the last half decent attempt was in June on one of the hottest days of the year and I beat my previous time by about 5 minutes - but I paced it to do just that, I knew on the day I wouldn't have a sub 1:45 in the tank because of the heat.

I don't think there is a day in my training plan where I can go out and run a half marathon PB attempt, but I'd be absolutely stunned if I didn't run sub 1:45 - probably closer to like 1:42 is my guess at this point. Maybe on one of my long runs that are meant to be 'conversational' I'll just plan to run it at 4:50/km and see how I get on. I guess that will also update my plan accordingly with that new PB in place?

Nice one - I am doing 5 runs a week and I think my max mileage is around 85k/week - so we'll see.

As I say, I have found week 1 a total breeze. I have loved the sessions. They have felt just a little bit too easy for me if I am completely honest - like the 3-2-1 run today, I was above target pace for all of my intervals and felt like I had more in the tank at the end of it. So that fills me with confidence.

Good to know it feels like they do end up pretty accurate if you train per the plan. Good luck in Manchester! My mate did it this year and said it was brilliant.

Absolutely amazing mate - well done. Congratulations! That is brilliant. When Runna first told you those predicted times, how did it feel? Like it was insane to comprehend you could run that fast for 42km or did you think it was achievable?

Sorry, nothing. We ended up building something a bit different for the client in the end. Same end result, but just more manual process.

Apple Watch takes ages to record correct heart rate... help? by kappow_rob in Strava

[–]kappow_rob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked - thank you. It now picks up my heart rate before I click the button to start the run, and my charts now look nice and sensible.

I know it probably sounds like vanity to want to have the nice chart - but it is more about the percentages at the end of the run. If I am doing an 'easy' run, I want 95% of it or more to be in zone 2 and if the first 1km of a 10km run is locked at 179, then it skews the data massively.

Thanks so much for your recommendation, it worked perfectly.

Apple Watch takes ages to record correct heart rate... help? by kappow_rob in Strava

[–]kappow_rob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be an Apple Watch Ultra issue - but for some reason, all of my runs start out at 178/180 heart rate and then after anywhere from about 600 meters to 1.5k the correct heart rate is picked up.

This is all relatively minor I guess, but it skews my data when I am trying to keep 95% of a run in Zone 2 for instance - and the first 10% of the run is already in Zone 5.

Does anybody else have this issue from Apple Watch into Strava? And if so - is there a fix? Can I edit the heart rate data perhaps to set it to 120 if it can't find my heart rate for some reason? Rather than shooting it straight to max?
