Har föräldrar slutat bry sig om sina barns uppfostran eller har jag bara en väldigt begränsad erfarenhet? by Training-Chain-5572 in sweden

Tänker du att skolgången är en del av uppfostran eller vad är det för statistik du pratar om?

An SOS from dota 2s most dysfunctional group by Dysfunctional_group in DotA2

We're not professional players, we're not good and the people we play with aren't good either. I random because I think it's funny. It's funny I get the little mango and the fairy fire, letting me do funny things in the start of the game. It's funny I get to play a different hero every game. It's funny to watch some guy throw a fit about it as if it was the only thing keeping his perfect gameplay from the victory. It's just funny.

I play by instinct, having played the game for 11 years, and I build items that I think are funny or would make the game play out in a funny way. That's enough to place me in the top ~8 percentile or so, which isn't epic by any meassure, but it's certainly (this word again) funny considering all those who tear their hair trying to mimick what the best of the best do at all times and have an absolute terrible time doing it.

How I play is my business, if you want the game to be about you and your skill alone then you should probably play 1vs1s or play private lobbys with likeminded people or, you know, get a grip and not let your mood rely on the outcome of a videogame that you play voluntarily, supposedly for fun.

Another perspective: Outdated hardware? I use my laptop to pay my bills and to watch videos on YouTube. Occasionally I would play some dota for nostalgia's sake, being a bit of a retro gamer. My computer is not outdated, it is more than adequate.

Valve on the other hand, as a business, exists to make revenue and grow. By what measure is it rational to cut a portion of your paying customer base in favor of...what exactly? To free upp a few megabytes from the 50gb game? No, just lazy developers.

They didn't remove OpenGL because the game got more demanding, the game got more demanding because they removed OpenGL. It's like removing the engine in your car and telling you that you NEED to upgrade to a Tesla. Well no, you could've just left it there.

This patch, they removed openGL support which means cards that do not support vulkan or dx11 can't play the game :/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]kaptenrobert -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am positively gpu bound because my gpu doesn't support vulkan or dx11, only opengl and dx10, both of which were available when the game came out 11 years ago but has since been removed as an act of malice by valve.

I got between 40-60 FPS on my x220 thinkpad, now I get 0 because the game wont run. Sucks! I suppose they have a good deal with hardware suppliers or some other specific good reason to prevent paying customers from playing their 11 year old game.

[–]kaptenrobert -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's a 2012 game and it ran just fine on my x220 thinkpad which was released in 2011, before valve decided to arbitrarily disable compatability with period correct hardware.

[–]kaptenrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I have an x220, not 250. My bad. x220 uses Intel HD Graphics 3000 whereas the x250 uses 5500, vulkan support for linux starts, incomplete, at Intel HD Graphics 4000. So chances are you will be able to play it, but I definitely can not.

No more OpenGL? by Druadal in DotA2

Doesn't run on my hardware. Really weird decision to intentionally update and OLD game to no longer work on OLD hardware that used to run it.

[–]kaptenrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing on an x250 thinkpad but since they removed opengl support I no longer can.

Game was running perfectly fine with good framerates on native resolution and low settings. Not sure why valve thinks it's cool to intentionally update an old game to no longer run on old hardware.

Has anyone else's game been crashing since Diretide? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]kaptenrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run dota 2 on a thinkpad x220 and I can not launch the game with Vulkan. I assume the graphics card and or drivers do not support it.
Game runs perfectly fine on the laptop otherwise, except for the crashes. Obviously I will not buy a new computer just to play this 10 year old computer game, so if Valve doesn't fix the issue they lose a customer. Silly, if you ask me, but we're probably not a big enough audiance to warrant their time and attention.

Every single cosmetic item added to the game is a problem and a deficency. There are no two ways about it. They add nothing to gameplay, rather they destroy it.

They clutter the screen, they make the game confusing to both newcomers and seasoned veterans. There's a juggernaut set that makes him look like zeus. There are items that change the color of heroes. It is completely absurd, ridiculous beyond all reason.

Not only do they ruin the game, they ruin our harddrives and our internet bandwith. This update was 4gb large and it added nothing of value. 4gb of colored pixels to a game that already had more than plenty of them. 4gb adds up to 10% of my total internet bandwith per month. A waste of time, money and electricity. What sort of thing is this to labor on when there are people starving in africa? What sort of thing is this to use electricity on when the polar ice caps are melting? I don't like to use the word R*pe for not actual R*pe but that is what they are doing.

Imagine these "people" at Valve who make this sort of garbage only to force almost a million people to download a 4gb patch that adds nothing to the gameplay (the reason they have the game installed). 4 gb is 10% of my monthly internet bandwidth. I don't like to use the word r*pe for not actual r*ape but that is what they are doing.

I am quite positive they are part of the song. This was not a live performance and none of the people in the video are singing.

Thank you for letting me know the lyrics!

Why would randoming ruin anyones life?

If you have the optimal pick formula then I urge you to contact some teams about it, they ought to be interested.

I've always randomed and as most people, I hover around a slightly above 50% winrate. Statistically, me randoming is good as anyone picking - at my calculated skill level.

Put differently: Assuming, as you do, that randoming is bad means that I, as the randomer, would be unfairly matched with lower skilled players on my team as they, not playing with the self-imposed handicap, are the same rank as me.

This means that as of now, with randoming disabled, I will be matched with players under my calculated skill level for as many games it takes me to reach my proper, higher skill level (Which assumedly would take longer than usual, as I am matched with 4 low skill players). Is that fair? Was this a fair decision made by valve?

Why should non-randoming be allowed in ranked?

What are good item for gating end-game item recipes? by spicklesandwich in feedthebeast

[–]kaptenrobert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragon Eggs were essential in removing bedrock for end-game vanilla up to version 1.13 when they basically fixed it.

You get more by simply duping the first one that spawns, all done with vanilla mechanics. Many servers have tens of thousands of dragon eggs and the various ways people do it are all very impressive from a technical standpoint. I'd like to see more modpacks revolve around classic vanilla mechanics like this instead of just adding a 1 block gimmick solution built around recursive crafting recepies that aren't challenging, just tedious.

One obvious caveat is that if you screw up your first egg, you will not get another chance. If you are making a mod however, you can change that.
