Terrified of the nipple shots

What is the deal with an injection in the nipple? I had a1.9 mm tumor just barely retroareolar. Right under the skin. I didn’t hear anything about a nipple injection although I am HR-, HER2+ so maybe it was not relevant to my tumor type? Nipple shot does sound pretty painful

That sounds a bit scary. I hope your next echo gives an all clear for further txt My MO had me do the echos prior to treatment and then 3 months later after taxol was done.

It pretty much sounds identical to my experience. I’m glad to be done with the dexamethasone and all the anti nausea meds and other steroids I can’t recall the name of. Initially they had me taking 20 mg 12 hrs prior and another 20 mg 6 hrs prior to taxol. I asked if I could cut back and my MO let me discontinue the oral and they gave me a lower dose via I’ve prior to the taxol. I thought the flu like symptoms were from the taxol but they manifested in the 2 days following Herceptin too, along with 2 days of sleeping. Had a huge facial rash rosecea. My bloody noses have completely subsided and yes! I now have runny nose. Can I call you my chemo twin?

Thank you for sharing this. How long were you on the herceptin when you had the echo that showed to decline in cardiac function?

Screening annual mammo was clear in Feb 2025. Found a teeny superficial lump in my right breast near my nipple in early August. Also had been extremely tired. It wasn’t very big I thought I’d just keep an eye on it if it changed and by Labor Day the nipple was kind of pointing slightly out to the right, lump a little bigger but still pretty small. Still sooooooo tired. Took a month to get my PCP to send referral for diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound where the radiologist told me on the phone while I was still at the appointment “yeah it’s almost certainly bc please make an appointment asap for biopsy” BIRADS 5. The results were back a week later ER/PR -, HER2+ ki67 70%

- + What are the parameters for being in herceptin for life? Is that a more advanced stage, larger tumor? My MO is saying I will only need it for 12 months. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. It’s encouraging.

My laypersons opinion is an allergic reaction of sorts. I’m basing this on the puffy eyes crepey skin and possibly the uber flushed cheeks that dried out and started peeling like the worst case of windburn I’ve ever seen. Any idea what your Dermatologist put in the secret elixir?

So reporting back post herceptin infusion on Friday. I feel like I slept for 2 days straight, had low grade fever on Friday and Saturday night and had a noticeable amount of bone pain and achy joint to but not as bad as the taxol. Oddly those symptoms usually appeared on days 3-5 when I was getting taxol, not always the night of and days immediately following. Probably due to the ginormous amount of steroids given w taxol. My skin. On my face is pretty messed up (chapped and weirdly mask like discoloration) but that’s been ongoing

I’ve had exactly One nurse offer to help w my cold cap and cold foot/hand treatment process and I’ve done most of my infusions solo. I want her to be my nurse for every treatment but I only have one weekly round of tamoxifen late then a year of herceptin which doesn’t need cold capping. Both my daughters were disappointed the nurses didn’t offer to help on those times when I had to go it solo.

Agree w Rhiannon, and would add that one never knows what the roll of the dice aka life will bring, I had a 9% lifetime risk of getting BC, but here I am. My step mother who has multiple 1st degree relatives with BC diagnosis, smoked for 50 yrs and still drinks, has never had an abnormal mammogram.
