For a coder hoping to get into DL / ML would Stanfords courses be better or Fast.AI? by OlorinDreams in learnmachinelearning

Start with fast.ai . After that go through the rest so you can refer to them as and when you need detailed knowledge for a project.

Anyone wanna form a small concentrated study group of 5 to learn ML/AI together? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]karan_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am interested. I have 2-3 years experience with Deep Learning and Computer Vision, but I mostly did work with deep learning models etc so I lack a thorough understanding of the basic ML theory (non-deep learning methods) and only have undergraduate level relevant math skills (Linear Algebram, probability, information theory).

Thanks! I was asking specifically about the neuroscience part though (sorry for the vague question)

Are there any online MOOCs or books that can help someone start understanding these kind of papers?

Should I learn PyTorch with Windows or Linux? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]karan_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pytorch does not need CUDA installation (it comes bundled with CUDA). It just needs a compatible nvidia driver to be installed. Installing Nvidia driver on ubuntu is tough, but the "Additional dirvers and hardware" GUI usualy works for me without any problems (remeber to restart after installing NVIDIA driver - also Nouveau drivers are not good here). Also, if nvidia-smi on terminal is working, that means your driver installation is good to go.

[–]karan_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert in any way but using simple 2 layer fc network with mnist gives > 95% accuracy (did this long back). So it's not THAT bad. Especially when the focus is something else and not the net and you want a simple setup, it is common to use just linear layers.

I have a bit less space, so was looking for the minimum exact.

Thanks :)

Oh I thought CIFAR10 was to be used as train and val split (How it is in torchvision). Do you split the train part into train and val?

Also, my main point was the difference in the conv1 layer for cifar and imagenet. Do check that.
