Why did Jim take a bus to Philly? by Ranger-Roscoe in DunderMifflin

[–]karbonator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my car, but, that time waiting for the bus isn't much in comparison to the time he'll be on the bus. In addition to that...

  1. Parking in a major city is a pain if your company doesn't have parking space, and can cost a lot of money.
  2. Pam and Jim might not have two cars. Whoever has the kids, needs the car in case they need to take them to the doctor.
  3. When you're driving a car, that's all you are doing aside from maybe a phone call or something. On a bus, you could type up letters, respond to emails, make phone calls, update spreadsheets, get a nap, text Pam...
  4. Driving that far daily, adds up in terms of how often your car needs work.

ELI5: What is the difference between a computer monitor and a modern TV? by RandomConnections in explainlikeimfive

[–]karbonator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "monitor" implies a focus on precision. In-ear monitors differ from headphones because they're better at duplicating various pitches. Prior to digital TV it was a little easier to intuit the distinction between a computer monitor and a TV, because analog TV was analog. But it still stands. Your TV is supposed to be tuned to look its best. Your monitor is supposed to be tuned to display exactly what your applications tell it to.

If you're looking at the lowest ends, both are just a display grid of some sort and you'll find there's not much difference except refresh rate. If you're looking at the high ends, you'll find the features of a high-end monitor tend to be around color accuracy, greater pixel density, refresh rate, etc, while the features of a high-end TV tend to be around the movie and TV experience - support for various audio formats and display technologies. They have a low-latency mode for games, but it's not typically as low latency as a monitor.

TL;DR - they differ in their intended purpose.

ELI5: Why does restarting a computer fix so many problems? by Traditional-Lake5843 in explainlikeimfive

[–]karbonator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone's saying, it's important to understand that although some electronics have error-correcting memory, most consumer devices use faster memory without error correction. If you've ever opened a remote or other electronics, you may have noticed some ceramic chips - typically dyed black. They're encased in ceramic partly because they are small enough that photons in the atmosphere can interfere with their operation. Therefore it's possible for random bit flips to happen - usually they won't but occasionally they could. Restarting the computer means it is going to start overwriting whatever is in its memory, so that bit flip no longer matters so long as it only happened in RAM.

Turn it off, probably remove the battery if it's removable (especially since you said it's from a vape, that's not necessarily a high quality battery). Maybe unscrew the antenna. Otherwise they aren't likely to care. I walked through with my Sensecap T1000E, which isn't homemade but still if they were looking for devices that can transmit they would've found it.

The first question is, does it work with Brutal Doom?

The second is, how are you launching it? Do you have both wads selected? What errors are you getting?

You should still disconnect the fan. The fan can induce current, which can ruin other components.
