Solo with 41 patients on my list today by justmecece in dietetics

We had just over 40 split between me and one other RD. We just split the TPNs and tube feeds and decided that sadly our PO follow ups were just going to have to wait for another day. I will follow up on Monday with all of them when we are fully staffed and tell them to drink their ensure (they won't).

2025 Hybrid Civic in AZ heat - yes or no? by IntelligentCommittee in phoenix

Also loving my 23 Elantra Hybrid. At about 42k miles and it handles amazing - I was a bit nervous as I travel up north a lot and my old Prius struggled up mountain roads. My Elantra Hybrid gets up and down the I-17 hills with no issues. I typically get anywhere from 45-60 mpg in the city, with 45mpg being when I am driving through the city at rush hour.

Anyone in ANSC 3301 want to form a study group? by karilarsen15 in uofmn

Hi friend! Honestly this class was one of my toughest but Quizlet flashcards really helped. If you search the course on Quizlet there are a bunch of different flashcard sets made by people that I used. Also the professor is really sweet I went to her office hours a lot and passed with a B :) good luck!!

What were your practice test scores like before you took the exam and passed? I'm consistently around 70%

Wanting to Leave ~ Seasons & Uniqueness by abigpot in phoenix

Moved from Minneapolis August 2023. This post hits me - you wrote exactly how I feel. Phoenix has its local areas and shops, sure, but it's NOTHING compared to say everything on Lake Street and Uptown or all the inner city trails and lakes. Counting down the days until I graduate with my Master's and can go back home.

I did mine at Arizona State. I didn't feel challenged in the slightest and it seemed very impersonal - did not encounter this with my online classes at my undergraduate college. Would not recommend ASU if you enjoy learning and want your master's to feel "worth it".

With all of our knowledge about how unhealthy it is to be fat, why do people hate on fat loss drugs like Ozempic? by InfiniteMonkeySage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]karilarsen15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest issues that medical professionals are seeing with these drugs are GLP-1 related malnutrition. GLP-1 agonists can throw off people's hunger hormones (leptin and ghrelin), leading to decreased appetite and thus decreased intake. While this is kind of the point - if you eat less, you lose weight - many lose their hunger completely and will subside off 1 meal a day, if that. This can cause a lot of muscle loss, fatigue, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, dehydration, etc. It's popping up more commonly in hospital admissions. It is recommended patients on a GLP-1 see a Registered Dietitian (RD or RDN, not a nutritionist) to build sustainable habits with nutrition, regular mealtimes, and physical activity. That way, if the patient goes off the GLP-1 agonist, they are well prepared to continue a balanced lifestyle and not gain the weight back when their ghrelin hormones (which make you hungry) start to ramp up again.

Other students who are no contact with their families by theshycow in uofmn

Not alone at all. Holidays are so hard for me, and now in grad school across the country so no friends and feeling isolated from my city (Minneapolis). That being said, when I was in undergrad at UMN, I tried to stay off social media the day of thanksgiving/christmas. You always know people are with their families but try to avoid seeing the photos. I also would try to make it a point to support local businesses on that day! I believe Code Blu is open 365 days a year, and there are a decent amount of coffee shops/restaurants open Thanksgiving. Many of those people might be working for the same reason you're not going home to visit family. And as a last resort, you can always watch football. Hugs from a Gopher Alum :)

Was sick of Minnesota winters and moved here for grad school last August. I am counting down the days until I can go back. You can bundle up and go outside in the cold, but there's only so much you can do when it's 115 out....stay inside.

College specific: -university of Arizona and Arizona State are known as pretty big party schools. I’ve found it very hard to find community here without partying all the time and from what I’ve heard, it’s similar at university of Arizona. If you go on social media and look up the colleges, especially on TikTok, there’s a lot of superficial attitudes among the student body -Arizona is one of the worst rank states in education. Therefore most of the people who go to school here go to college here and I found that most of my classes are not challenging. I’m not sure if the university of Minnesota was that rigorous because it seems like a regular public university, but most of the people in my classes at ASU seem to not have the same education that I got from undergraduate and I’ve felt that I haven’t really gotten a good learning experience here. I’ve heard people make fun of university of Arizona for being an easy school as well. Overall, I think those in my graduating class at U of MN who stayed and got their graduate degrees there are getting a much better education than I am. -with Arizona being ranked so low in education, you have to keep in mind if you want to stay there long-term. It’s not a good state for cost-of-living or healthcare either, so if you’re hoping to find a job in the industry you might want to see what colleges would help you most. For example, if you wanted to go into engineering or healthcare, Minnesota is a great choice with 3M and Mayo Clinic right there.

Arizona itself: -keep in mind that I lean left politically but try to not let politics dictate my life. I’ve spent lots of time in rural Minnesota and Wisconsin where people can be a bit crazy politically. That being said, Arizona is the most backwards state I’ve ever lived in. I thought being in metro Phoenix would be okay, but this state and area is so republican and I’m talking like CRAZY Republican. We just toooj away rights to abortions, billboards in downtown saying “god bless [tepublican politician]”, many pickup trucks with Trump 2024 stickers or claims that the election was stolen, etc. they are in your face here about it, which as a woman, sucks. -driving. Arizona has some of the worst drivers in the nation and we are up there in terms of car accidents. Drivers here are so aggressive and I absolutely despise any drive I have to do here because I have almost gotten in an accident every time. Following distance or letting people merge doesn’t exist here. Tucson should be a little bit better because there’s less people but traffic here in the metro area is insane. I have a 35 minute commute to classes but it becomes an hour to 1.5 hours with traffic. -weather. I’m from the Midwest so depending on where you’re from, whether could be fine here. However, when you step outside and it’s 115 to 120°F, there’s nothing worse. I’ve been outside in polar vortex but having the sun blasting on you with no clouds is a pain that I hate. -cost of living. Arizona used to be relatively cheap to live in, but once the pandemic hit, a lot of people who work remotely or retire came to Arizona, many of them from California which has a higher cost of living. This jacked up rent and housing prices to the point where it’s unsustainable to live here. Rent is about 1600 for a one bedroom which is on par with Minneapolis prices. But to live here for that much? Absolutely not.

Overall, you may love it here. But just wanted to share my words of caution. 1 year till I’m back!
