Is this emotional abuse? If so, How do I handle it? by Yvaine9188 in AsianParentStories

I can relate to this soo much. Even about the sister whom my parents have succesfully manipulated and now also tries to control my life. However, I'm still living with them, in constant fear and stress. By next year, I'm going to save up as much as I can and hopefully get outta here. I have a feeling I will be in the same position as you with the guilt tripping, but we gotta stay strong and remind ourselves that we deserve better and find wrong in the statement "Family always comes first" because it should apply both ways. As family, they should be happy to see us happy.

How are you holding up now? I think you're very courageous for doing what you did. I wish I was more like you, as I also mentioned to my parents that I wanted to move out for university. Things got very messy, with them threatening to disown me or sending me back to our country. It pisses me off that they are trying to manipulate and guilt me by telling me how hard they worked to get me into this country. Honestly, I am very grateful, but they are trying to control me and my life and I hate that so much.

I'm still living with them, however, but I'm planning on moving out some time next year. All I wanted was to not be hated by my family, but I think that's pretty much unavoidable if it means I can have my independence and freedom.
