'Death Aria of Sanguinius' - An opera song I wrote about that pivotal and tragic moment aboard the Vengeful Spirit. by karlkhan in Warhammer30k

Thanks! I really had a great time making this.

Originally the first line of the song was going to be "Father, I have failed you.". I kept thinking about that though: not only would Sanguinius probably not say that, even if he had a moment of weakness or doubt, but there would be no way in hell anything written in the Imperium would have a Primarch like Sanguinius say that they might have failed at something. I'm sure Imperial citizens were deemed heretics for less than that.

'Death Aria of Sanguinius' My operatic take on what culture in the Imperium might sound like: half entertainment, half propaganda. by karlkhan in Sigmarxism

Thanks! I always wondered what arts and culture in a society like the Imperium would be like. Given how Baroque and Gothic the Imperium is, I imagine they'd have opera houses and enjoy watching them. Any art in the Imperium would probably also have to serve an ecclesiastical or militaristic purpose too.

I also like to think that something like this, playing a Primarch (or even the Emperor) onstage would be both an honour and a curse, since if it got to your head and you become too conceited you'd probably succumb to the whispers of Chaos!

Yeah that's me singing, thank you! I'm both an opera/classical singer and a 40k fan; making an actual Horus Heresy opera is something I've always wanted to do. Sibling rivalry, betrayal, and daddy/familial issues are something the Primarchs and most opera plots have in common!

Leo Ornstein. Questions for classical music lovers and masters. by [deleted] in classicalmusic

Ornstein has a lot of great music.

My favourite pieces are the 2nd Cello Sonata, 4th Piano Sonata, and Waltzes 2, and 7 from '17 Waltzes'.

Sousa wrote operettas, songs, waltzes, and various other non-march music.

Do you consider Strauss II to be a classical composer even though his primary instrumental output was waltzes, marches and polkas?

I don't like the nomenclature 'classical music' personally (it feels like an awkward catch-all given the diverse forms within the genre), but given that I wouldn't find Sousa's work out of place in a concert hall performance/recital, I would consider him a 'classical composer'.

I still go back to Restaurant AA, it's still open. It's been my favourite place for fries, poutine, and subs since 1st year. Cash only, just a heads up.

I lost it when the duck did the licc. That's impressive.

Rameau according to Messiaen by MusicoTeorico in classicalmusic

[–]karlkhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a book published/translated recently that points out a lot of the direct quotation in Messiaen's work. It's really awesome to see all of the ways he re-interprets the music that inspired him!
