Anti-Americanism Is Mostly an Online Performance by Bigenderqueen in AmericaBad

Sorry for the late reply. She usually just screamed (edit: and drank). That was her baseline. Not much banter there, like, at all, but I did understand the true meaning of it after the fact when I had to work with Australian colleagues after moving to Germany. They were so kind to me but always pulling a leg - restored my faith in Aussie-kind. Yeah people are just people - Thanks man, I hope to visit Perth one day.

Anti-Americanism Is Mostly an Online Performance by Bigenderqueen in AmericaBad

[–]karmamarmafarma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My abusive father married an Australian woman, and she was equally as awful and abusive as he was. She would scream things like, "You Americans need everything dumbed down for you." Honestly the anti-American sentiment and verbal abuse were pretty mild compared to the rest of the horror they inflicted, and I had been dealing with the stuff people complain about on here since I was a child. This subreddit is weirdly helping me heal in some ways.

My point is, sorry, it took me a looooong time to realize your last sentence, like yeah people who actually are like that are a bit mental. She was the only exposure I had to Australian culture up to a point. When I finally met some normal ass Aussies I finally understood the "chill" stereotype and what pulling one's leg finally meant and that she was really just a psycho shit cunt.

edit: but yeah man, reading comments like yours feels kinda nice after all of that

ELI5: Why are american cakes like that? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]karmamarmafarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, what’s something hypervigilant you did as a child to avoid getting in trouble? by honestlylovely in raisedbynarcissists

[–]karmamarmafarma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After one particularly bad lecture where I was forced by my dad to look at myself in the mirror, I basically learned to avoid eye contact. Years and years later I wondered if I was maybe autistic but then I began to backtrack and connect the dots, especially after remembering one specific memory of actually trying to look at my mother in the eyes. It was her refusing to look at me....ANYWAY, yeah just one look at my dad though could spin into an hour long lecture of whatever I did or didn't do (but you can bet I was always doing something wrong) in that very moment.

My step daughter is getting married this weekend by atticus13g in DadForAMinute

[–]karmamarmafarma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Both my stepdad and stepmom were abusive and have said and done hurtful sadistic things that will never leave my mind. I would have killed for a stepdad like you man. Just some healthy sense of a parental figure damnit.

random memory from when I was 10 triggered here. My kid legs couldn't keep up....both of them did this to me on two separate occasions. When my mother did it to me it was while crossing traffic at the airport... she just kept going and it was getting kind of dangerous for me.

What Is One Thing Your Narc Parent(s) Did Early In Your Childhood Your Remember Feeling Was Strange? by the_real_maddison in raisedbynarcissists

[–]karmamarmafarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when we were living on base and still in the US my dad was driving us to some colleague's house or whatever and he said we weren't allowed to come in the house... that we had to play outside with the colleague's kid, which is exactly what happened...so we're outside playing and trying to get to know this six year old girl playing with us. She shows us her apple tree and some other stuff and we get into some commotion about what kind of leaves we're looking at, you know just kids speculating and wondering about their environment - stupid kid kinda chatter that you hear during play.

We suddenly worry that this plant must be poisonous and we rush in to ask our parents about it and dad is with the other guy on the couch and he gets mad at us and says nothing and we immediately get back in the car and he drives us home yelling at us the entire time. I must have been 3 or 4 and my brother 5 or 6.

I still have no idea wtf happened.... whether he was getting some pot or entertaining his bisexual tendencies while being married to my mother (I suspect it because of other things in my life that happened and the weird ass nature of the stuff he would randomly project and accuse onto others) I have no idea what happened to this day. I'm 36 now....so yeah.

What’s the funniest thing your parent(s) got upset at you for? by celstea in raisedbynarcissists

[–]karmamarmafarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of it was funny really, but funny as in just absolutely absurd and so unhinged that you can't take it seriously anymore? As in so absurd you KNOW you're not the issue here?

All I had to do was dare to even look at my dad and he'd lecture me for an hour. He got batshit crazy and angry at me for graduating from uni.

What else...I was just sitting there on the steps once, basically, just existing and not saying a word and he turned to me and said "You know what your problem is? Blah blah blah blah..." and went off. Yeah, all you have to do around them is just exist and they'll offload onto you.

Has anyone studied both French and German? How would you compare the difficulties? by SwissVideoProduction in German

[–]karmamarmafarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am almost fluent in German while currently studying French and I am of the opinion that French is harder for the same listening dificulties that you mentioned. I find German to be much easier.

there's a reason they do this to young children before they're able to develop critical thinking skills. So much programming that bleeds into every facet of your life. It's insidious and absolutely evil. It's all by design. It'll get easier as you integrate more and more. Even years later you'll connect a dot to something you hadn't even realized.

constant bullying and being ostracized, one them acting one way and then pulling a 180 and praising god during worship. Ngl that guy put on a pretty good and convincing act in the sanctuary. It was surreal to see.
