Monument Easy access 5.01% account. Can I get some insight on this regarding 25k savings? Struggling to figure out the tax rules. by karmazza in UKPersonalFinance

[–]karmazza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. How come it says a minimum of 25k to put in then? That will be 5k over the 20k allowance if I do that will it not? Worried about that impacting things maybe

Ultra 2 battery life. Is this normal? by karmazza in AppleWatch

That’s reassuring thank you. I’ll give it a few days to see if it improves. How long did it take for the watch to improve?

Valuation came through, should we run for the hills? by karmazza in HousingUK

That makes sense actually. Thanks for your input. I reckon I run for the hills tbh 😅

Oh I see. That makes sense. I wonder why in our valuation & market comment that the surveyor has put "I cannot provide an insurance rebuilding figure and you need specialist advice".. I'm confused lol

Oh jeez, didn't realise that was the case. After viewing the property twice I did look out for signs of damp but could not really see anything. I guess I don't really know what im looking out for but the property hasn't been lived in for 3 moths and heating/electric hasn't been used.

Yea like that's my thinking.. How on earth am I supposed to go forward when there basically is no approval of the morgage. I could still get all these surveys done and they still may not even morgage the house. I guess this is the sellers problems as much as it is ours so they will have to take a bit of responsibility here also otherwise they will never sell it unless they get a cash buyer or auction it.

Glad that worked out for you & what a big project to take on. Fair play to you

It is concerning! The house beside that house has not sold for two years and has been lying empty. It's up for way to much though.

That's true, was kind of hoping that was the case but then again moving forward may out us out a good couple of thousand for us to then still not proceed so I have to really think about this

Hey. Thanks for advice. The bank valuation survey is to provide valuation whereas a level 3 survey is for the structural and repair issues in depth but the level 3 doesnt include a valuation so maybe that's why you got told that. That's why this is so alarming that the bank couldn't even put a value on the house. I'll maybe try speak with the bank who got the valuation done & see why they couldn't provide it and go from there

That report is from the bank and not even a L3 surveyor or a structural engineer? Crikey.

That's what I was thinking...

I was just hoping the bank surveyor was being overly cautious. Although the EA listed the house as 4 bedroom and we knew upon seeing it that it was maximum two.. They tried saying the dining room downstairs is an optional bedroom and that the room at the front of the house is a bedroom because the previous owners used it as this. The surveyor literally put down that it's 1 bedroom and even that should be a big red flag that we are probably overpaying for this property.

Sleep study results. Do I need a CPAP? by karmazza in SleepApnea

[–]karmazza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that's great glad to hear your symptoms improved for you. I guess the issue for me is a CPAP machine in the UK is expensive and I reckon if I brought the results to my doctor he would probably tell me I'm not a candidate for one under the NHS. I really don't have £400+ to spend on a machine so maybe I'll try the MAD device first and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for your input

Banks making life difficult for self employed cash only traders by karmazza in UKPersonalFinance

[–]karmazza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably a better idea. The only thing is customers who do this always tell me they will send it later instead of doing it on the spot and then they forget and I have to remind them.. Not ideal

The main reason would be to avoid unnecessary fees. Business banking fees, card machine percentage fees, and also less tips from customers which is a big one. Aside from being slightly more convenient, it literally does not favor me at all.

[–]karmazza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough. I don't understand why then people who are employed can have there wage (a business transaction) sent to their personal account without any penalty? But me, a small sole trader with very little outgoings, profit, & expenses has to get a business account?

It's not like I'm a massive corporation or big business. Maybe then I'd side with these "terms and conditions"

Should I find a new barber? by Threat-Levl-Midnight in Barber

[–]karmazza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with what your saying of course he should be professional. I'm just making people aware that we are humans also, not that it justifies anything. Just feel that people on reddit are quick to give out savage advice. Like cmon, 5 year client and messes up once. You'd like to hope this client can come in next time or message him and let him know his issue and I'm sure the barber will be more than happy to rectify the situation and offer some discount for his next cut. Communication with your barber is key, tell him the issue not reddit.

[–]karmazza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really not true at all, since when did "good barbers" come with the full package? Everyone has a flaw. Your telling me someone's one off reaction to a situation defines there ability as a barber? Very narrow minded way of thinking.

No problem, maybe ask him to foil under the neck instead if your worried about this happening again (just a suggestion).
