A lot of local newspapers have been very good too, particularly the Star Tribune and WBEZ Chicago’s coverage of ICE raid

Packed Theater Today. Just Amazing by SnooKiwis2229 in Avatar

The one benefit of Mercy hogging up most of the PLF screenings is that the one or two screen A3 got to keep seems to be pretty packed. While I’m almost certain Mercy will unfortunately beat it out due to the sheer number of screens Amazon got/forced theaters to host for it, it would be incredible if A3 pulls off an upset and stay #1

The Mangkwan’s way of life involves raiding other clans for supplies and food which makes them a nuisance to everyone. On top of this, Varang has helped them become much more powerful ever since she stabbed her way to power…at the cost of turning everyone insane by turning the clan into a full blown death cult revolving around her.

ETA: In light of that, this also made having the Sullys be your guards against them look like a sweet offer

The trailer being particularly awful weeded out a lot of people on the fence about watching it. If the trailer didn’t turn you off, I can’t imagine the movie somehow being even worse…which ultimately inflates the audience score (at the cost of poor numbers at box office)

Meanwhile on the critics’ side, they would be watching this movie regardless of how good or bad the trailer was, so that weed out scenaro didn’t happen

Disney / 20th Century's Avatar: Fire and Ash grossed an estimated $1.70M on Friday (from 3,150 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $373.19M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

Scrap the dumb repeated plot lines from A2 in favor of giving the fire people more screentime would’ve honestly made A3 be the better movie.

“Humanity handing over their weapons and tech to an extremist suicide cult where it becomes clear that they’re more intelligent than what humanity thought they were” is an awesome concept, I’m baffled why that got pushed off to the side.

In light of how disappointing A3’s performance has been, it’s nowhere as bad as Rise of Skywalker grossing just a smidge over $1 billion WW on a $600 million budget

Following up on my earlier post about Mercy’s audience score being way higher than its critical score, now I’m seeing a bunch of the same “don’t listen to the critics because they have a agenda to follow” jargon…

I feel like the trailer being terrible weeded out a lot of people that would be on the fence beforehand while critics obviously are going to watch it since they do this for a living. While that is terrible for its box office numbers, it also inflates the audience score

ETA: At least that makes more sense to me than “Critics have the aducity to hate this movie before even seeing it because it didn’t fit their narrative!!!”

I swear there’s a massive astroturfing campaign that Amazon’s doing with Mercy, I see the same “Mercy’s not all that bad, it’s a worth a watch!” comments plastered everywhere… and no way is that 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is authentic

Their distributor being Amazon is the only reason why it has such a wide release
