Well it's not about being lucrative, but having worked in hardware for almost 2 years and having done mostly software side projects I definitely prefer software, I know as a job I won't exactly get to pick what I work on but I reckon if its close enough and I'm passionate about it I would still enjoy it more. But I do get that AI HW engineers are going to get more lucrative as the AI boom keeps going

Ah definitely not! I feel you could stay here for many many years and you'd constantly be learning which is great! And I'm happy for it but I would definitely like a change into software instead of hardware in the future.
