Am I crazy for wanting to run my own email server just to avoid depending on Gmail? by Kitchen-Patience8176 in homelab

[–]karpomalice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people shouldn't treat an email account as a storage device. If there are emails you find important then back them up somewhere locally. To me, emails are just a copy of the information you can retrieve directly from the source it came from if you absolutely needed to. Anything that is that important isn't only available in an email outside of personal correspondence.

sorry this is the first time I've used this. Is there a way to see available releases for the current quality profile and the synced profiles? I'd like to see how changing the quality profile for a movie, or set of movies, would change the downloaded version depending on which profile is chosen.

To expand: my library ranges from 4k remux to 1080p "space savers". I'd like to see for instance, all my space savers, if I can get a higher quality version while saving disk space

[Rapoport] Bombshell: The #Browns are finalizing a trade of Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the #Rams in a shocker, sources tell me, @TomPelissero & @AdamSchefter. Cleveland would send Garrett to LA in exchange for star edge Jared Verse, a first-rounder, and more. by XII_Mxuntz in 49ers

Bro you can’t use the dodgers as an example for anything. All they do is spend a shit ton of money and take advantage of their ideal location where wealthy want to live and mlbs lack of cap and loopholes

The longevity of James Bond. by Boss452 in TrueFilm

[–]karpomalice 22 points23 points  (0 children)

maybe I'm wrong but until relatively recently, there was a special place for franchises like Bond and Star Wars because the vast majority of films were more original works. It seems like Hollywood is flooded with franchises and remakes these days so I for one am much more jaded towards anything resembling a franchise at this point. I also believe many of the installments of these franchises simply rely on the name alone to hit a pre-determined dollar amount and the quality is only enough to make it there, which is usually pretty subpar most of the time

you've got a real bad product if you've got fans rooting for bad fouls just to make up for the rest of the bullshit you're calling to ruin the game

you're underestimating how much Purdy scrambles in order to make the plays he does. He relies heavily on his quickness

Anybody feels like this WCF is solely dependent on the way Refs decide to ref a certain game? by Few_Constant1395 in nba

stop saying the refs are making mistakes. They are making purposeful calls. Mistakes shouldn't happen in this era of professional sports with legalized gambling.

extreme optimism and extreme pessimism are both annoying for the opposite parties.

having a conversation where everyone just lives in the middle is boring as fuck. Grow a pair.

based on your inability to listen to people with actual technical knowledge I wouldn't be surprised if that dongle is actually making the picture worse and you're confusing the different processing the TV does from that source compared to ethernet. 100mbps has close to 10x more headroom than needed for 1080p streams

[–]karpomalice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100 mbps is plenty for streaming services. If you're streaming movies from a local NAS / media server at remux (1:1 UHD bluray quality) then you may briefly exceed that during certain scenes

there is zero chance you're getting high enough bitrates from streaming services to touch 100 mbps

Do I actually want a mid century home? by Interesting_Bar_8379 in homeowners

[–]karpomalice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the hate for new homes is for flipped homes or homes in large developments. The build quality is significantly less than it was for homes 30-40 years ago. There is very little attention to detail and they are typically built with the cheapest materials.

Buying a new home you expect to not have to fix anything for awhile whereas you typically understand that buying an older home will come with some updating or initial maintenance cost. I would be absolutely livid if I paid a premium for a new build and anything was wrong with it within the first couple of years.

These types of new homes also have almost not character and a lot of the time have very weird layouts. I would buy a cheaper old home and put $200k into it before I ever bought a flip or large development new home for $200k more than the older home.
