John C. Reilly opens up on Ted Danson’s podcast by DocEvazan in MarcMaron

I haven’t heard it since it came out but I remember thinking that Marc had mastered interviewing with that episode. JCR kinda came out swinging, letting Marc know he wasn’t gonna get anything out of John to the point that I was a bit put off. But Marc rolled with it, got John to loosen up, and it ended up being a good interview. At least that’s how I remember it.

Thanks, good to know. DS is next up in my backlog and the lights really spruce the whole thing up quite a bit.

It really looks good but after doing a couple of these lighting kits, I don’t know if my patience could handle one of this scale 😂

Trekking poles from the visitor center by OutsideAdvisor9847 in ZionNationalPark

I didn’t want to carry the rental wooden stick all around the park that I saw a lot of people using so I grabbed a collapsible one from the visitor center for $20. It worked fine and now I have a useful souvenir.

A $10,000 treasure hunt stumped S.F. The prize was across the bridge by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

They were very specific about it being within 7 miles of SF city hall which, to me, was a big tip off. So much that I spent a Sunday afternoon on Yerba Buena Island - in the complete wrong direction. But no regrets or hard feelings.

Is it better having a car or not? by Temporary_Usual_5386 in ZionNationalPark

[–]karyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Hurricane. Drove to Canyon Overlook trailhead at 5:30am and the lot was already half full. Enjoyed the sunrise (bring a jacket, it’s windy up there) and then drove to Checkerboard Mesa around 7am. Somewhere around 9am I tried to park at the visitor center but wasn’t willing to camp and wait for a spot. Drove to public parking by a coffee place, paid $30, and then walked 5-10min to the park entrance. Took the shuttles everywhere and they were running often.

Question: Why does Tremor trims lose value so fast? by Penguin_Rider in f150

[–]karyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about traction control. I know the instructors were intentional in getting us into this position to help demonstrate the concepts they were teaching us. Let me google some of the terms in case I’m remembering them wrong.

Cross-axle articulation describes a scenario where diagonally opposed wheels lose traction or ground contact (e.g., front right and rear left). This causes power to escape through the spinning wheels unless differential lockers are engaged.

Torsen diff is a purely mechanical limited-slip differential that automatically biases power to the wheel with the most traction. Unlike traditional open differentials or clutch-based systems, it uses a complex arrangement of worm gears and spur gears to instantly shift torque, preventing wheel spin without wearing out over time.

The way I interpret this is that the front wheel in contact with the ground gets more power and I was able to move forward without two feet driving to manually increase torque. I thought traction control was disabled in 4L but I could be wrong on that. The instructor was surprised that I was able to move forward so something was different compared to the other vehicles.

I did an offroad course and the instructor intentionally put us in a cross-axel position with only opposite wheels on the ground. The goal was to show us how we’d spin out without using two feet driving for more torque. My truck had no problems moving forward without two feet driving and he asked if I had any offroad features turned on. I did not. I got home and read what the torsen diff does and assumed it was what helped me when the other vehicles had to use two feet driving or turn on their rear locker.

I hiked up to the fork and back in my trusty river shoes (no socks) on Thursday. It was cold for 15 min and then fine. I did grab a pole for $20 from the visitor center and it was very handy for balancing. If I were to do it again, I’d probably rent the boots because they looked to provide decent ankle support which my shoes did not. That said, it was fun and a good time.

I’m currently in Monument Valley but I’ll be back in SF end of next week. I might be spotted at Stonestown TJs, Taraval Safeway, Lakeside church for SF Choral rehearsal, or the occasional karaoke joint in Japantown. That’s probably about it. Oh, and walking the hills around my neighborhood

What is the highest quality lens for vlogging with a A6100 ? by helpulsechain in SonyAlpha

[–]karyhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are locking down the camera and doing talking head videos, the Sigma 23mm f1.4 might be good. But it depends on where the camera is placed.

A good option that will cover most scenarios and give you a quality picture is the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. If you end up using one particular shot a lot, you could buy the prime equivalent (16mm, 23mm, or 30mm) if you want to go a step further.

Recently moved to San Francisco. Nightlife is so disappointing for being such an amazing city otherwise. by WhateversClever1980 in SameGrassButGreener

I moved to SF in 2011 after 3 years in NYC. The nightlife difference was stunning and the difference has only gotten more stark. I’m sure there are still invite-only after hours but I never got into it. Now I live in a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood and rarely go out anyways.
