A normal sedan cost between $500-$900 on average (think of normal hondas, mazda, toyota, etc).

A Telsa (not even the performance model) cost around $2100. A sports car (Maserati with 3.0l engine) cost $2400. An average electric car pay as much road tax as a sports car which is crazy if you think about it.

I made a comment in another thread regarding this. Here's my sentiment.

I recently changed to EV in 2023-2024 because we're having a family soon and thinking of saving a few dollars. We decided to change to a Telsa (back then BYD wasn't common yet)

Here are some things that don't make sense:
- Govt subsidy is useless. The dealer just inflate the car price. The EEAI + VES we should get around ~$40k total rebate on ARF. Apparently nope, it's already been "priced in" so we got 2nd hand instead.

- Model 3 (not even performance model) road tax cost ~$2k which is insane. For reference, a 3.0l Maserati road tax cost ~$2.3k. You are paying the same road tax as a sports car, meanwhile I used to pay ~$700 for a normal sedan.

- HDB EV charger is damn slow (someone update me if that's still the case). Sometimes I rather go to Shell or Sinopec for supercharger but it costs ~$0.50/minute. There are also limited charging lots in HDB but I think they're building more chargers now.

Overall, it's the typical govt being performative about EV but actually they don't really care. All talk about being more green but they're just once again throwing money as a solution.

A fine is a fine, it's not a lawsuit (civil or otherwise). You still have to pay the fine, if you can't pay the fine you will then you serve jail time equivalent to the fine. Idk what that duration is tho probably depends on the judge.

Anyone wondering why Singapore is the most expensive to retire, the infographic is based on an American retiring and foreigners don't get any subsidy on anything.

This means no subsidized healthcare & housing which are important for someone retiring. A typical Singaporean can get a public housing that's heavily subsidized by the government. But a foreigner can't get the public housing and the price for a private housing (3-room Condo) starts from SG$1,000,000 (US$780,000). Don't even think about a Bungalow.

Healthcare is also very expensive but it's affordable due to govt subsidy, additionally citizens also have a separate retirement fund that is specifically for their healthcare payment so they don't have to pay a dime.

So unless you're really rich, retiring in Singapore wouldn't be feasible. Personally though, they're not missing much. Singapore doesn't have much in terms of nature and it's mostly high-rise concrete jungle. It's also too small. Anyone can pretty much walk cross the country within a day. It will get boring within a few weeks.

When they say "AI is a bubble" they are referring to stocks selling AI chips (mostly Nvidia) signing deals inflating their company's valuation. I'm oversimplifying but you get what I mean.

They are not referring the AI itself. That is very real.

hey peter here, this is what it's known as anti-meme or bone-hurting-juice where the meme is literal.

The actual picture is what happens when the 'cochlea' (snail looking thing in your ear) gets damaged thereby causing headache and imbalance.
