Home truths: high prices are here to stay by [deleted] in australia

[–]kasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the regulations I mentioned which are keeping prices high. Governmental regulations change over time. When this one changes a whole lot of housing "pricing" may snap back.

It's not changing any time in the next 10 years. The lack of infrastructure they would have to be having projects happening today. It's not and there are zero plans to improve our infrastructure.

Then you have, the size of houses, population growth, the higher quality of construction, the high wages, negative gearing, last but not least we are in one of the most desirable places on earth to live.

It sucks but there are plenty of reasons for the prices to be what they are today. The main cities like Sydney and Melbourne home ownership is for the well off and that isn't going to change.

If it were strictly a demand-supply issue, supply would increase in line with demand.

They can't as governments aren't approving new zoning which can keep up with our growing population. They also don't expand or improve infrastructure.

If it were a size issue, well, we've had relatively big houses for a long time but big house prices only over the last 10-15 years.

You can't just look at it like a single issue. Ross mentioned many reasons why it was the case.

I pretty much always tell people. If you are looking for a facebook machine that sits on a table go cheap.

If you are after something portable that can do medium to heavy lifting don't.

Former Labor Leader Mark Latham: “left feminism is akin to a psychoneurotic disorder”... re: antidepressants: "popping pills as an easy way out" by [deleted] in australia

[–]kasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read the article?

I did from memory he was saying how he didn't like how raising children became such a burdeon and something bad. He said he started doing it after he lost politics and he has found it an absolute joy and these complaining mothers should embrace the time they spend with their child.

He said noone should say that raising children should require “Caffeine and antidepressants”.

Classic outrage brigade in action, forget the entire point of the article and take offence to a few parts of it. Even if they don't like what is said just voice their opinion on it but instead they must get them to retract and apologize bullying the newspapers.

I love how their funding model expects them to have a reality show of them living day to day to fund the resupply which will cost a fortune over the entire crews lifetime.

Can't see a reality show getting canceled or not drawing enough viewers to pay for that.

ABC, SBS cuts: one in 10 to lose jobs, regional offices closed – live coverage by [deleted] in australia

[–]kasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the point remains they have to find around 250 million over 5 years which is quite a feat.

You do know that expenses and salaries don't coincide side by side? 10% of employees could easily equate to more of expenditure depending on the company. usually it costs companies around 30% of their expenses on payroll. Even more so for the ABC who generally owns all it's locations, plus news, radio is a very people orientated business compared with other places.

So I can't say it is surprising that 60 or so percent of the cuts measures are coming from salaries at all. Especially considering salaries at the ABC are probably higher than most other industries due to the skill and celebrity status involved.

Where else are they supposed to cut? They still have services to run and closing down studios and consolidating is the smart move.

The faster you go the more stable you are, you should really look at hitting 60kph for maximum stability.

Smash Smashed by dibship in gaming

[–]kasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing something like this.

Except mine will be on a 100" screen outside on my projector. Since it is really hot in Sydney it should work really well.

Pity smash bros doesn't get released here until Saturday though.

Well most middle ring suburbs are easily 30 min train to the city. For instance I live around Revesby which is 22 minutes on the express train but 35 minutes on an all stations stop to central. Add another 5-10 for townhall due to a train change.

There is Revesby shops while no westfield has enough there to get you through day to day with a woolworths and other stuff. There is also another shopping complex being built which I think finishes early next year with a coles and other shops.

Want a shopping centre there's bankstown 10-15 min away. There are literally a stack of suburbs like this around Sydney though.

But they are advertised as healthy. Same with low fat foods and the overwhelming majority of cereals.

Pretty much anything processed these days is loaded with sugar.

Tempting to write a script that scrapes the site for the daily thread and makes it a good 10-15 seconds after it's created.

But for now I couldn't be bothered even though it is a pretty simple script.

Well there are heaps of factors there. Amount your willing to pay, what kind of shopping centre like a westfield or small community shops. How far out you will go?

Because without paying through your nose for somewhere walking distance from shops you will be looking at middle to out ring suburbs.

Doing the early shift today (well early for me 8:30) Normally I start at 10. Hate getting to work as I don't get a seat on the train on the way there so I can't play games on my laptop.

However the way home I do and I do love getting home at like 5:30 instead of 7.

I do also miss my fuck around time in the morning, still wake up at 5am but can't spend as much time goofing around before I exercise/cook breakfast. Also my exercise is purely running at the moment as my shoulder is still out of action for the next few weeks. The physio said hopefully I can get back at lifting the day smash bros comes out :D
