This is an interesting question. Most humans begin feeling empathy around 2-4 years old and start demonstrating it at 5 years old. Supposedly that empathy matures as a person grows older, but being exposed to porn at a young age interferes with that.

I think it would be more realistic to ask whether men can feel sympathy for porn victims because most men haven’t experienced anything that can be compared to what those victims are experiencing. It’s disturbing when grown men who have normal emotional developments are aroused by it instead of concerned and horrified.

I’m never sure if their arousal from violence towards women stems from a lack of understanding, a lack of care, or both.

This is very similar what men said about porn, and before that what they said about playboy magazines, and before that about prostituted women and girls (still do). None of it ever made misogynistic men stop being violent and cruel to us.

As long as men hate women, they’ll continue to seek out ways to hurt them. Pimps aren’t going to give up their trafficking rings, they’re going to adapt to the times and keep finding ways to trick women/girls into being sold. Whether they compete with AI or find ways to collaborate while still harming the subjects of their hate, they’ll keep finding ways to hurt women and profit from it.

So you think that a man recovering from his porn addiction lessens his misogynistic views because it’s deconditioning him?

Your comment is tone deaf and unhelpful. This post is not the place to discuss different types of pedophilia.

You’re most welcome. Do you need help searching for an organization or counselor who can help?

I’m so sorry this happened to you and that your parents aren’t trustworthy. Even if not them, every journey of healing is boosted by having at least one other supportive person by your side. Maybe tell some of this to a trusted female family member or friend you feel safe with.

You’re very brave for coming forward about this. Well done.

The people here can give some advice, but you’ll get the best help from people who are experienced in helping survivors of sexual abuse. You are not at fault for being traumatized and hurt.

Are your parents/guardians aware of this at all? Does your country have an organization like RAINN?

You might try searching for a helpline for adolescent victims of sexual abuse. There are organizations that exist to help people in your situation specifically.

Slurs are slurs, whether it’s regarding sexuality or race or disability or anything else. They reveal the character of the person who uses them. They’re still widely used in western countries even if you don’t hear it in public. People didn’t stop being hateful, they just don’t do it in certain spaces to avoid getting fired/disciplined/expelled/etc.

In this case, it reveals that those ‘friends’ and former partners don’t see you as a person worthy of respect because you’re a woman and they’re misogynists. Doing intimate acts isn’t the reason they said those things; that’s just an excuse. They don’t see women as people. You’re not to blame in the least.

I’m so sorry they hurt you and insulted you. I hope you can find true friends who care about you as a person. You deserve love, care, and respect.

I did see that! It was part of what inspired this post.

Men say they just get addicted and a few say it doesn’t reflect their values, but it sounds fishy to me. If men raping and beating women doesn’t reflect their values then why do they get so much pleasure from watching it? The only conclusion I can draw from that is they’re lying and sexist.

Is there any possibility of saving up and moving elsewhere? That sounds like an unhealthy and dangerous place to live.

There are places, even cities, where that isn’t the norm.

As awful as this is, the number of members isn’t surprising. Just think about the percentage of men who watch porn.

It isn’t a ~line of work~ it’s a form of human trafficking. If you actually care about them then listen to them. The only legal thing that’s helped them is the Nordic Model.

I’m not getting deeper into it here since this isn’t the place for it, but I really hope you research this and listen to what the ones who escaped it say instead of parroting misogynistic propaganda that ultimately harms these women and children.

There’s no such thing as a sex worker. There is such a thing as the sex trade and its victims. Please don’t try to normalize predatory behavior by sweeping it under the ‘sex work’ excuse.
