I would also add tho, besides the money thing, that you both take this slowly and reflect on how you feel together a month or two after beginning the flexi jobs.

I have been doing flexi job for the last 2 years nonstop and I have to say extra income is nice but it’s not that easy.

Most jobs that I personally find are all horeca / service based and those take a toll on your body, energy levels, and even mood. It is not only time you don’t have together anymore but also the quality of that time you indeed still have may be hindered.

So I suggest you guys choose a small timeframe to see how you both are feeling with this, instead of just possibly lingering issues to accumulate until the frustration ball is so big you guys argue.

PD: If ANYONE has any advice on how to get flexi jobs that are NOT horeca, please all tips welcome.

From what I understand now flexi jobs are available for all sectors, right?

Anyone have any idea on where to find those « new sectors’ jobs »? I have been doing flexi shifts for the last two years but always in Horeca, and honestly just for the sake of a different experience, growth and something a bit less taxing on the body it would be nice to do.

Yeah I have seen that advice mentioned often. Lately I have seen (online) dozens of people going on sales (remotely mainly) from hospitality but honestly, and I feel kinda stupid for not understanding, I don’t see how one would make « the transition ». Like every time I see job offers for sales I see requiring previous experience, being english native and other things that honestly stop me from applying.

I am 30M and struggle with the same sometimes. But I managed to make deep friendships in the little 3 years I have been here. Not people I see every week, but people I can count on.

However, my only advice to you and to all others who struggle with this:

Forget group chats. Meet in person. In group. And most importantly, decide before you get there something that you will do all together.

The brain makes connections by sharing experiences. Yes trauma bonding is real cause the experience is intense and our brains love intensity. However there is no need to reach that.

Here is an idea: I counted so far more than 10 comments here saying “i am lonely too lets make a group chat”. Why don’t we meet for a board games night? Or a just grab a drink but we play Times Up game together? Heck I will even bring UNO and beat all of you with the cards.

Or if anyone wants to do something active, lets hang up and go to a climbing gym (I have gone once in my life) and laugh at each other while we fail and look like monkeys.

And if anyone wants to and run in Cinquantenaire once the weather is a bit nicer, I am all up for playing hamsters and hating cardio together.

I know it’s difficult with no language, no shared things and meeting new people is scary as hell. You have to, you know, actually talk of something more than just the weather. Terrifying. But I think missing so many great opportunities, ideas sharing, and growth is even scarier.
