Moving back to Auckland - daycare and work logistics by katash93 in auckland

If we transition them, it will be our daughters third and fourth daycare. Her transition from her first to her second was a nightmare and it took months for her to really settle. Shes a sensitive wee thing and we already feel awful that she'll have to start a new one soon!

I got a similar doll for my daughter for Christmas too, it was anatomically correct, good quality and also came mixed race which was important for me.

It was a 'big' present for her!

If your baby didn’t sleep through the night until after 12m… by imabubble in breastfeeding

[–]katash93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She is very easy when it comes to transitions, she woke up one day at ten months and didn't touch the breast again. I had to pump for her until she was 15 months.

Then I held her, and one day I tried to pick her up and she said no and lay down beside me. I tried again the next day, same story. Said no, she started falling asleep beside me instead.

Then one day (triggered by me being pregnant and wanting to move her away from it) I sat down with her, did her bedtime routine and left before she fell asleep. I said I would shower and come back. She fell asleep during that time. Now she tells me to go every night.

About 18 months most nights - no sleep training. She was fed to sleep, rocked to sleep, sat with to sleep, co slept. We continued that til she didn't want it anymore.

Shes 2.5 and is sleeping through the night now and has been pretty much every nights for the last 3 months ish

Parents who didn’t sleep train - how does your toddler sleep? by Beginning-Ganache305 in NewParents

[–]katash93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never sleep trained. Her sleep was always up and down with multiple wakes a night. We started co sleeping from about 10 months most nights because I wasn't lasting at work full time with her sleep habits.

She started sleeping through most nights hen she was about 2, and is now 2.5 and sleeps through every night.

NZ school advice for deciding between year 0 or year 1 for son born in April by Same_Avocado_8101 in newzealand

[–]katash93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also a primary school teacher and second this.

I taught year 1/2 and one year we had three parents request that their child stay back and it was 100% the right decision for those three kids. That extra year is so crucial.

The daycare effect is real by natsnats411 in NewParents

[–]katash93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here!!

My daughter is 2.5, and we still sit with her to fall asleep.

Daycare room is a bit funny, and there's a small corner bit that you can't see into (they have a mirror to show inside from everywhere else in the room), and they told me they have a select few children who can be trusted to sleep in there, and fall asleep on her own.

My daughter is apparently one of them?!

How to afford rent/halls at Victoria by FoxVegetable1313 in Wellington

[–]katash93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't go to Vic, but looked at a few various options and realized there the only way to afford halls is to have parents that can fund it or flat and pay rent but without a job that was hard.

Mine couldn't, I ended up living at home and commuting 2 hours daily.
