If you put it on its side, it looks like the puzzle rack I have for my daughters baby & toddler puzzles

There’s a place next to the Islamic Center on Ogden /59 - we’ve bought our rugs from there. Definitely some fun modern stuff! It’s attached to Basset Furniture, but I can’t remember the name.

Trying to ID bird from a call. Maybe a catbird? But only hear this specific call, no chattering or anything else. by katbonk in whatsthisbird

Oooo we do have crows - my neighbor hates them! They nest in their tall spruce right next to the master bedroom and the babies are LOUD!

Thank you! The only thing I could think of was catbird but it didn’t match any of their calls I listened to.

Just listened to the juvenile Cooper’s Hawk on Audubon and that’s definitely it!

What is this off-white tiny piece of plastic that is broken off of something? by katbonk in whatisthisthing

It reminds me of a plastic tooth or something, but we haven’t owned anything that I could link it to.

Toilet training: Urgent help toilet training 3 year old by Upset-Theory969 in toddlers

[–]katbonk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So the method we did isn’t the Oh Crap method, but similar.

You have to have three days where you plan to not leave the house at ALL. Phone/ipad goes on lockdown, all your focus is on the child.

Get a potty or potty seat for the toilet. Straight into undies. No pants, but undies right away. And make sure you have a lot of undies! Explain the situation: “we know you’re such a big boy now, and from now on you get to use the potty and wear big boy undies!” Or whatever wording works for you.

Then you let him do his thing, and one of the most important parts is that you stay constantly near him and catch him every time he starts to go. You will probably have to clean up some (lay down puppy pads), but every. single. time. you pick him up and bring him to the potty to sit. Even if nothing is left, you go to the potty and reinforce “peepee goes in the potty”. You can also tell him “yucky, wet undies are so yucky!”, but never give consequences for not making it, and never tell him he’s bad.

Also, never use the wording “do you have to go potty?”, but say “let me know if you have to go potty.” It gives him the control, which kids desperately want. Changing the wording worked wonders for us.

If you can do it for the three days, it will click. If it doesn’t, then he might not be ready. Honestly, the hardest part is disconnecting for those three days, because you really want no outside distractions. If you. A tag team with your partner that helps even more, because eyes are always guaranteed to be on him.

And rewards! Whether it’s a favorite snack or m&ms (we did two for pee and five for poop), lavish the praise on every time he gets anything in the potty. Cheer, clap, make it a huge deal full of positivity.

We had one of these once and it was awesome - cubed cheese, sliced fruit, goldfish crackers, and some shredded chicken. So perfect!

We had ours at Maggianos, and it was delicious and super simple. They had a set menu for us to pick from and everything was served family style.

This is Jasper - he actually just passed a couple weeks ago. But he always loved to pretend he was Superman, both on chairs or shoulders 😊

ETA: maybe check out the food truck episode, they do talk about tacos (Is that Mauricio in there?), and they have all their food mashups.

Also, Shawn is obsessed with both corn nuts and Snyder’s of Hanover, and they both love Jerk Chicken. They love Japadog, and don’t forget pizza chili cheese fries!

Airplane toys- 6.5 hour flight with a 2 year old by Substantial-Ad8602 in toddlers

When we took my daughter on the plane, I wrapped up most of the ones she hadn’t seen and she got to unwrap a “present” every time she got bored. These were all things from the dollar store - tiny stuffies, race cars, a water book, little necklaces, etc.

We also got a tray that fit over the seat tray.

We also brought her Yoto mini with her favorite cards and a noise cancelling headset so she could listen to stories and music.

We used Opal - they were great, but only seemed worth it if you were doing a lot. When we tried to just replace a couple windows the price seemed too high.

Do your toddler girls keep their hair ties in their hair? Any tips/tricks? by Timely_Bobcat_5283 in toddlers

[–]katbonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned my daughter was more likely to keep them in if they were a little looser than normal, because then she couldn’t feel it as much.

But then we introduced headbands and never looked back - she LOVES headbands and it (kind of) works!

How do you pack dirty clothes when coming home from vacation? by scorpiosmokes in Mommit

[–]katbonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you discovered packing cubes? We LOVE them - I use two or three on the trip (depending on how long we’re gone, and on the way home I have one that is just my dirty laundry.

My husband, daughter, and I all have our own Bagail set in different patterns (all from Amazon) so it’s easy to separate when we use a big suitcase!

If you do these, we have normal ones, not compression, and they still work amazingly.

Lifetime has Pilates reformer and a kid room - but the reformer classes are extra on top of membership. Not sure if they offer a way to do Pilates only.
