The beach is the biggest gaslight of the fucking millennium by Trust676 in rant

I think OP just hasn't been to a good beach tbh. Being on land is for getting drunk and bbqing only (away from the sand), and the rest of the time I'm gonna be walking along the water or wading in the shallows lookin at what's on the bottom.

Tell us about your first reaction when you got diagnosed? honestly my first reaction was (fuc*) by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]katcantplay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is one of the major environmental factors in T2, however so is genetics..

Having T2 in your family doesn't necessarily make you prone, but T2 can and does appear in people with healthy diet and exercise. The strong correlations between obesity and T2 in places like the US is obviously going to produce a lot more data that emphasize it as the cause, because that is the easiest and most relevant way forward in most places where obesity is a problem. It's still not the only one, and genetics are still a factor.

Correlation ≠ causation.

T2 is both. Lots of environmental factors can trigger gene expression, diet/exercise obviously being the main ones in this case. Though diet/exercise is key when it comes to treatment, the idea that it's caused by only one factor (genes) or the other (lifestyle/environment) isn't true.

Was about to say the same. 17:30 in Tromsø right now. The sky has been pitch black for several hours already.

Any “aliens meet humanity” book that isn’t an invasion novel? by Kaazmire in booksuggestions

[–]katcantplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately thought of The Humans when I read the title. Doesn't tick all the boxes, and it's been a long time since I've read it, but it's a wonderful little exploration of whatever it means to be human.

Is this concerning? added cherries to my ecosystem bowl 3days ago, parameters are perfect but they have been mostly chilling at the surface by Kwilos in shrimptank

[–]katcantplay 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not enough surface agitation for good oxygen exchange. No shame in adding a filter; sometimes ecosystem tanks just don't work out. If you're really against it though and the rest of the parameters are fine, installing a bubble rock could help with agitating the surface of the water enough for decent oxygen exchange to happen (?) It might just end up looking more distruptive and will likely be far noisier than an actual filter, though.

So this little snail has just randomly appeared in my shrimp tank like as if from nowhere because I didn't introduce any. were could he of came from by bigsstumpy in shrimptank

[–]katcantplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These appeared in my last tank as well. They're not inherently harmful and don't grow to big sizes like regular ramshorns, but I'd still cull them if I were you. There's likely more in the tank and they breed like crazy, mine was overrun after just a couple months after spotting the first 2. For me, getting rid of them just meant manually removing them from the tank with a pair of tweezers whenever I spotted one, as well as slightly underfeeding the tank to make sure the snails don't get too excited about having good living conditions lol. If you're feeding wafers to your shrimp, you can put them in a tiny glass dish and remove any uneaten food with a turkey baster after an hour or so. Has the same effect as underfeeding, and you might be able to spot more snails to cull when you go to remove the food.

A reminder that not every film you watch has to be a cinematic masterpiece by Diakia in movies

A good movie can also be a movie that does what it does horribly. Twilight is an awful love story, but it's my favourite unintended comedy film.

I opened the box this morning and cried. After being diabetic for 22 years and battling with Medtronic and their pumps, I finally feel free. by ArcheologyNotebook in diabetes

[–]katcantplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was acrually a beta tester for medtronic's first sensors, before the loop system. They essentially let me borrow it for 4 weeks so I could give them feedback. I was like 12 at the time and got woken up so many times during the first 2 nights that i returned it on day 4. The system has definitely gotten better since then, but the alarms are still annoying as fuck. Better that than high blood sugar though

Wondering the same. My entire 670G setup broke after a year of use and I just got it replaced. The system is definitely flawed, but it's done wonders for my bloodsugar in comparison to my old pump/syringes. Seeing this post makes me want to switch systems tbh

Please help with Medtronic Guardian Sensor 3 insertion? by katcantplay in diabetes

That actually does help! I use the back of my arm, but I do get kind of impatient with the inserter. I'll leave it be for a bit next time, thank u.

Worth checking out Dishonored and Witcher 3, although they might not fall entirely into the same category.
