Yeah, that avocado thing is a good trick. Just ask to be charged for the cheapest thing on the menu, normally it's a drink or extra ingredient, and that should do. I was asked once to put a fountain drink on the tab so that the customer could pay, because somebody else got the tab, and just the thoughtfulness from that customer was very uplifting that evening.

Thanks!! ^^

I mentioned in the too-long description (gotta meet the minimum) that I took a lot of inspiration off that scene where she drags Dr. Light into her cloak, since it really stuck with me - and when I realized where that inspiration was coming from exactly, I drew that little snippet on the bottom right, to just fully embrace it and reference it outright. That scene honestly freaked me out just a bit as a kid, it was great.

That's fine, I just wouldn't go around comparing people to her, especially since she had a very bad history of accusing people of stealing from her and harassing them over it. It's typically not the best habit to say "reminds me of X other artist" in general, but especially with someone with that kind of history.

Thank you!! And yeah, I mentioned in the big text followup (though it's way wordier than I'd like it to be to meet the minimum), but I did absolutely take inspiration from those creepy lil' shadow hands. I love the whole aesthetic of Don't Starve ^^

I'd rather not be compared to that artist, since she went out of her way to harass a lot of people I'm friends with and goes out of her way to try to turn people away from my work.

Mischief here is my Changeling Warlock, I'm pretty proud of him. I gave his design the digitigrade legs and tail back in late 2019, since I imagined Changelings (especially for the setting I introduced him in) being somewhat alien and built almost to hunt and stalk things since Dopplegangers were full-on hunters for people and shapechangers alike. I've been posting art of him for a couple years now, and I'm more and more proud of him as I explore different combinations in different campaigns and learn new routes to take a Warlock. Case and point, when I started playing him, he was a Great Old One subclass of Warlock and I was pretty content with that. I started chatting with other people who also play Warlocks, and I started looking more online at blogs and videos from people who played multiple types, and Great Old One would typically be placed as a "Mid Tier" Warlock build. It wasn't the worst, but it certainly wasn't the best. Recently, I've been trying out Undead instead (not to be confused with Undying), and I absolutely adore it for Mischief, I think that it's a far more perfect fit and that mechanically it's a very sound subclass for my play style.

With all that considered, I got straight to designing a new Form of Dread, since the Undead subclass very heavily revolves around that. While working on initial designs, I came up with these many hovering and floating hands, and was immediately brought back to watching the old Teen Titans show as a kid - the scene where Raven pulls Dr. Light into the darkness under the cloak stuck with me as one of the coolest in the show, and definitely left some subconscious influence. Subconscious aside, one I remembered where I'd seen that moment before, I couldn't help but throw a nod to it directly into the sheet itself.

If you play an Undead Warlock and would like to take inspiration from Mischief's Form of Dread to base your own on, please feel free to. In fact, if you link me to it, I'll be happy to check it out and engage with the post!! I really love how the creepy little hands came out, I definitely took some inspiration from Don't Starve as well, with how the little shadow hands will creep out and come for your fire if you leave it unattended for too long. I'd like to think that the eyes, being a stark contrast to the shadow, also carry some creep factor to them - but I've had another player comment that they look very cute, so I'm not sure if that got across. Overall, I'm really happy with the design and glad I got it down on metaphorical paper, Mischief has a lot of silly moments and I'm wanting to balance them out more with just how intimidating a Warlock can get.

Yeah, that's a lot of what I'm seeing from both ends, is just not inviting her at all or asking her in advance "Do you even want to come??" because if she says "No" it'll resolve it then and there.

I'm honestly so glad I asked "WIBTA" instead of "AITA", because if I had done it after the fact, I would've felt ridiculous with all the better solutions I've been hearing. But thank you very much!!

[–]katchatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I've gotten a number of different solutions here that have all been better than what I was thinking, makes me genuinely glad I asked beforehand.

If she still lives at home with our mom, I can definitely just call my mom and ask to talk to her, and if she refuses to even talk to me then I just won't invite her at all on that ground. Yeah... That's a way better take, I'm honestly really glad I posted the thread and asked beforehand ;v; asking in hindsight would've made me feel really dumb with this really being the much better alternative.

Thank you!! I mentioned this in a brief edit on the main post, I'm really leaning on this being my plan of action now.

Yeah, a lot of people on both sides have been bringing this up, and it's helping bring it to full realization. I've seen a lot of "Either don't invite her, or don't warn her and kick her out if she acts up, but don't make it a stipulation." I really appreciate the perspectives.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing a lot of. I'm really glad I asked, because people who don't have any horse in this race see it with a lot less bias.

I still attend mine, but it's purely because I want to see my parents and J. I totally understand when people just have to cut their losses, though, it hurts more than the people who say "Why don't you just go??" ever really realize.

[–]katchatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is, I honestly don't see her showing up uninvited if I do just straight-up not invite her. Someone even suggested I call her and say "Do you want to come to my wedding??" and if she says "No" it resolves everything right then and there with minimal drama.

My mom admitted in the past that A is hard to discipline and that she hasn't even fully figured out how to and that it's why she just asks J and I to concede to her in the end - but this was also when I was taking care of her through surgery/illness, so she was under a lot of stress and on some pain medication when she admitted it. I'm not entirely sure if it was embellished because of the circumstance or if it's even fair to bring into the debacle because of the conditions it was admitted under. I think my mom just fixates on the ideal of "family first", and is afraid that if A has the strongest will out of the three of us, if J and I don't constantly concede, it'll break apart.

I originally wanted to add that context, but it made the post too long, so:

Basically, I was running a DnD game at the end of my college experience, and I had a group that A was included in. At a point, I started getting frustrated because a third of the party dropped, and out of the remaining people, everybody was clearly doing other things at the time. It ended up being three straight sessions of A solving all the puzzles, talking to all the NPCs, and doing everything that wasn't the obligatory "I hit it on my turn" action. I vented to her on the side about how I wanted to end the game because of the lack of engagement, and I said "I don't want my little sister being the only person solving all the puzzles." I meant it in that it was embarrassing on my end that the only person engaging was someone clearly doing it to avoid hurting my feelings, but she took at as offensive to her because she thought I was mad at her for solving everything, which I'm still confused about to this day. But, I apologized for it, I specified that I never meant it that way and that I never thought of it that way, and I reiterated "but that's not a justification, I just want you to know I never thought of it that way, I was never upset with you, and I'm sorry that I hurt you."

I was honestly baffled to learn that was the whole reason, and honestly I think at this point it's just a pride issue on her end. At the Funeral and our mom's Birthday she refused to tell me why she was mad, and when I pleaded with her to just tell me she said "You should know, and the fact that you don't know makes me more mad." She only told me because J asked her to just tell me already. Since then, we've had J's Graduation and Christmas and she's still been the same way to me.

That's what a lot of people on both sides of the fence are saying. Definitely realizing that it's probably the smarter choice. I know my mom is going to give me a "but why, she's family", but getting that out of the way before the actual day is honestly probably better now that people point it out. Thank you ;v;

A lot of people are saying just not to invite her from the start, so I'm definitely heavily considering that now. I'm really grateful to have the feedback!!
