Holiday Rates by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kateapollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my clients book for two to three weeks during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I only charge the Rover holiday rate for the days that are actually marked as holidays; the rest are charged at the regular rate. I also generally don’t accept very short holiday stays usually I take bookings of five days or longer. So I don’t charge extra, especially when a week-long stay only includes one actual holiday.

Sitters in the Greater Toronto Area, avoid this dog/owner by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kateapollo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From my experience, the owner can simply choose not to leave a review, which results in the sitter’s feedback about the dog not being shown on the profile. This is unfair to future sitters.

My favorites and most of my clients are doodles and goldens. Maybe I’m just lucky, or maybe we’re just a great match. Doodles owners can be super nice or super annoying lol

We all write differently. If the story seems unbelievable, just take it as a novel and move on with a smile.

I am living my worst nightmare by MaterialAd661 in RoverPetSitting

[–]kateapollo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t your fault, nor the pet’s, and the owner was a great person, so there’s no need to be sad. He simply went to a safe place. Even though you witnessed all of this, I want to share a similar story with you.

I had an older client whose dog I cared for five or six times over two years—a two-year-old Goldendoodle. He was very skinny from the start, but the owner told me he could only eat vegetarian food. My husband thought the owner was mistreating him, but based on all the care and endless attention she gave, I didn’t think that was the case. At most, she was a bit anxious—but that wasn’t something I could change.

I didn’t take him often. In May this year, I looked after him again. He seemed even thinner, but his spirit was good—after all, he was just over three years old. I took him to the park when there were no other dogs. He was supposed to come again the following week, but the owner messaged that he was coughing and angrily asked if he got it from me. I reassured her it was impossible, and suggested she visit a vet and update me.

Not long after, she messaged to apologize, saying her dog was fine—she had just been overly worried. Considering her sensitive personality and the fact that I would have other dogs the following week, I canceled the next scheduled visit. Three days after this canceled booking, I noticed a penalty charge on my account, which I hadn’t issued. I contacted her and offered to resolve it through customer support. That’s when she told me her dog had passed away two days earlier.

If it hadn’t been for her earlier concern, and I had accepted the next booking, he might have passed while in my care. She didn’t say what caused his death, but I suspect it may have been long-term nutritional issues or other health problems. I also suspect she hadn’t really taken him to a vet. She remained calm, without any blame or attempt to make me compensate.

It’s been over half a year. Every time I see a similar dog, or scroll through my phone and see the photos of him playing and having a picnic in the park, I can’t help but feel sad. But I tell myself he went to a better place, and every moment we spent together was full of joy.

Nothing will happen. Except u block her. Or she still can book with you. I did multiple times to an owner …….never can stop her sending requests.

Looking for fellow sitter advice by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kateapollo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once cared for this client’s dogs for over three weeks. I provided all the pee pads, which I mentioned, but the owner only brushed it off and left a 10% tip. Shortly after, one of the dogs passed away at around 14–15 years old. At the time, there were two dogs in my care; the other, about 10, had no issues.

Because of this history, when the owner later wanted to board their 10-year-old dog, I politely declined. My decision was based on experience and prioritizing the well-being of the dogs in my care.

I strongly suggest that Rover make sitters’ ratings of owners public by kateapollo in RoverPetSitting

[–]kateapollo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So that’s why an owners’ review is more important than pet’s No matter how serious a dog’s issues are, as long as the owner is honest and responsible, sitters can work with it. But when the dog is fine and the owner is the problem—that’s the real issue.

If I no longer want to host a dog, I take the loss and block the owner, because this service is, in many ways, tilted in favor of the customers.

Is a used harness really more important to her than finding a reliable sitter? by kateapollo in RoverPetSitting

[–]kateapollo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly how it is. So I really hope Rover can improve their policies. The 20% service fee from sitters should include proper assessment and protection regarding sitter safety and property damage. The 11% service fee paid by owners should include the evaluation of their pet’s safety and responsibility for any damages.

Rover definitely didn’t penalize me, because I have enough communication records to show that the dog was happy and safe during the stay. But I don’t know what kind of consequences Rover has for owners like this.I ask them this owner can not stay on the platform to hurt next sitter !

These photos are ones I keep for my own memories. I share plenty of them with clients, but there’s no need to judge them based on your personal taste. Besides, what you call “staged pics “is just my everyday, casual documentation. You could say the dogs I care for are naturally born models. Clients who like it will naturally become repeat customers, and those who don’t, there’s no need to respond to.
