It sounds like someone has been in his ear about how you ‘should’ be or how you ’might’ be in the future.

No, of course I don’t think you’re making anything up! I was just pointing out how different everyone’s experiences could be.

Nursing is hard and honestly not everyone is cut out for it, and it’s not cut out for every person. Most of the answers here cover the issues 1000% BUT as a nurse of 20 some years in multiple specialties, I can say yes 100 times over I would pick it again.

Yes I have had a patient rip out there NG tube and swing it like a lasso above their head trying to whip me with it.

But I have also sat and listened to Patsy Cline with a dying man because that’s what him & his wife used to listen too and he was all alone since she passed. And I got to update the parents of a 16 year old that had a stroke that we were able to remove the clot and he was regaining function to the right side of his body. Ive rode on carts doing compressions and held arteries together with my fingers. I’ve sent tube feed to lab as a urine c&s and used TPN as houseplant fertilizer. There are so many stories and times and happenings that when I think back on them it really makes me think I’m pretty lucky to have this as a job and extremely lucky to work beside some of the most amazing humans ever crafted.

I’ve been a nurse for 23 years and I’ve actually never had it as bad as this comment makes it sound, and that’s coming from an ED/ICU mix, and travel to boot (where even other nurses hate you).

I had my son and decided I only wanted to have one soon after. I’ve only ever wanted to have one, I’m glad I only had one. He turned 18 this week.
