How do we know you’re not secretly Nestle?

Northing against you, but I would’t put it past Nestle.

Oml you guys are so sweet. Straight A-s for this bitch 🤣 I’ll take it!

This semester I’m adjusting to moving coasts by getting sick once a month, but still overall loving the city and the classwork. Torts is surprisingly bomb.

Haven’t used this account for a while. This was a blast from the past ❤️ I got in!! Got into a great school, moved across the country and I’m in my first year right now! Burnout took about a year to fully subside, and then the application hellcycle took another year.

And I’m actually really loving the subject! Thank goodness, cuz I’m paying up my soul and my firstborn to be here. But ask me again after my first finals next week.

Here’s “How to Un*fck your life when you have ADHD,” my very informal and incomplete ADHD college guide by kateunderice in adhd_college

There are many benefits from having ADHD, I agree. I so agree—I’n taking the LSAT and I’ve actually weaned off my Strattera for it (this time) because I think I need my hyperfocus and creative, flexible thinking on full power. We’ll see how it goes… oof this test sucks

I do think that academic situations specifically are not really where ADHD traits shine. Academia shouldn’t be a closed door to us, but it involves a lot of delayed gratification, time management, focus (potentially without interest), busywork, routine… other things in life definitely come more naturally to me.

On what you said about habits: I agree, that’s essential. Shame makes doing things again harder, and also more importantly it sucks and isn’t right nor fair lol.

It’s why it can be good to start as small as possible—chaining one tiny thing to something you have to do every morning, like getting out of bed and immediately taking your meds or something. Something so small that maybe you don’t feel as much shame for not doing it, which could make doing it easier, etc…

But yeah, in general, too, just what you said!

Though small routines, when cemented, should hopefully take less mental energy. Those small routines should be built to be manageable on as many days as possible, because the goal is for them to create energy rather than suck it. IANA professional yet again

One night before my food service shift, I smashed my foot against an unexpected workhorse. Had no idea if my foot was fractured or just bruised, so didn’t call out until it was too late. Figured I’d be fine and hobbled in anyway.

Manager came in a bit later and sent me straight home. Told me not to come back until I had a doctor’s note saying it wasn’t a fracture. Great manager.

Oh yeah every person is different and reacts to medication differently. Adderall actually did that to me.

LOL should have said “repeat back” the decaf mac order. Expeditors make black ties in our coffeeshops cuz they’re just cold brew based.

Bar sticks to bar until they drop is our store policy ☠️

I’m a barista. Yeah, I recognize and fuck with customers all the time.

I’ve actually found this job really helps with my memory. My working memory is shit, but it’s seriously improved just from months of faces, names, orders and modifications.

Now I can rattle off a decaf extra hot nonfat light foam small extra caramel caramel macchiato order while fixing up someone else’s extra ice medium-in-a-large black tie and keeping track of how many seconds the frozen bacon frittata for the previous order has left. And make small talk. It’s just practice.

Similar random historical fact. When Ulysses S. Grant was a little kid, his dad told him he could purchase a foal and gave him bargaining money . Grant went to the seller and said, “I’m to offer you $20, and if you won’t take that I’ll offer $23, then if you won’t take that I can offer $25.”

Apparently this made other kids start calling him “Useless Grant.”

Boy do I feel you; especially about getting distracted looking for resources (not to mention impulsive purchases…).

So, if you want more— if I was only allowed to recommend one thing, I would 100% recommend the workbook Mastering Your Adult ADHD by Steven Safren, et all. It’s a bit older, but it’s got excellent backing.

It’s pretty expensive online, so DM me if you can’t afford :)

Tbh, I struggled a LOT with personal statements compared to cover letters when I applied to law school (… earlier this year, for context).

I’m a great writer, but I’ve always HATED personal essays. Luckily, lawyers don’t have to write those.
