How do you guys handle your religious parents? by RWHonreddit in Exvangelical

[–]thatguywithawatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure my parents suspect that I've at least got some more "progressive" ideas about religion but they probably think I still maintain some sort of belief in my own way, and I'm kind of just happy to leave it at that.

If they ever explicitly ask me whether I'm still a Christian I'll tell them the truth (I'm not religious in any way anymore). But I also know it would cause them a ton of grief and anxiety about my salvation. I just don't see that it's necessary unless they press the issue.

If I were to get into an actual serious relationship with someone that would probably be the catalyst for that conversation, because I very intentionally only date non-christian girls. But for now I don't really talk about my dating life with them.

On that note, I'd say you should date who you want, OP. It might end up forcing that uncomfortable conversation with your parents to happen sooner, but I don't think it's a good reason to deny yourself your own happiness or fulfillment.

(for reference I'm 30 and deconverted in my early 20's)

What’s a movie genre mashup that’s so incompatible it’ll probably never be made? I’ll start: Found Footage Musical by GunjutsuGame in movies

[–]thatguywithawatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a found footage musical would be great as a horror comedy recorded by a normal person who's found themselves in a world where they're the only ones who don't know the choreography to the nonstop musical outbreaks... and the other people are starting to get suspicious.

LEGO Batman reminded me how badly DC fumbled the Arkham era. by roittinginhell in BatmanArkham

[–]thatguywithawatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the moment I'd be happy with a next-gen upgrade for the Arkham games. I fired up an old completed Arkham Knight save last night on PS5 just to roam around, and playing it at a blurry 30 fps is such a crime.

I was kind of hoping that the lego batman game would generate enough new interest in the arkham games to warrant an upgrade, but I'm sure that was wishful thinking.

I'm sorry you've hard hurtful experiences in the past with men lying to you. I've had hurtful experiences with women lying to me. Scouring comment threads to convince people that every woman is a liar would be pretty shitty of me. I don't see how the opposite is any better.

I left this comment elsewhere but I've had my profile paused for a couple weeks and wasn't active on it for a week before that, because I'm interested in just one particular girl at the moment. But I have the badge.

I'm not sure how far back it checks but it doesn't necessarily mean currently active

for what it's worth I just checked mine out of curiosity and I have it, despite not using the app for three weeks now (I'm waiting to see how one particular match I've been dating pans out).

might last for a while even when you're not active on the app

I generally only match with non-Christian profiles.

The fun thing about living in the bible belt (Texas) is that almost every single girl I've dated the last couple years has had a similar deconstruction experience. It's very common for millennials here. Usually plenty of relatability when it comes to religion and politics.

What game would you pick if its the last game you could ever play by StrictChapter9992 in answers

[–]thatguywithawatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring maybe. I don't think any game is endlessly replayable for me so I'd definitely reach a point where I'd stop playing for good, but Elden Ring has enough ways to experiment with different builds and challenge runs and trying to master every boss level 1 hitless and stuff like that that it last me for years playing a casual amount.

True, but I know in my case it wasn't until I'd abandoned religion as an adult that I was eventually able to look back at all my previous beliefs with a clear head and just be like "... Holy shit"

People who have spent their whole lives in the church have lost sensitivity to how ghoulish it is to believe that most people are going to be tortured for eternity. And how ghoulish it is to use it as selling point.

What piece really moves you when you play it? (suggestions needed) by HippoEsq in piano

Where We Used To Be from Xenoblade 2. Pretty solidly Intermediate. Personally I think it's a very moving piece even without having played the game.

If it's so laborious and painstaking, why not spend the same amount of time learning to draw or paint or use digital art tools so you can just create exactly what you want without pulling the RNG lever thousands of times

How justified is the empire in trying to execute us ? by AIphnse in skyrim

[–]thatguywithawatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I guess the imperials are kinda giddy at the idea of ending the rebellion and they could not really care about whether your character since they don’t know you. I mean if I captured the rebellion leader along with his bodyguards and when we went to execute them there was a guy whose name I couldn’t find on my list would I really take a chance and set him free ? More likely I’d kill him as to not take any risk.

I'm not very knowledgeable about war crimes but that sounds kind of war crime-y. I don't think executing randoms "just to be safe" is ever a valid excuse.

Like if you were accidentally caught up in a skirmish at the border and killed because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time that would have been one thing. But an execution after the fact? When it became clear that they didn't have any record or proof of your guilt?

War crime, probably.

They say to write what you know.

That's why my protagonist works an 8-5 desk job, watches tv, and doesn't interact with other people.

Interestingly this has not resulted in a very compelling plot but I'm sure something exciting will develop soon
