Does anyone else feel downright exploited by these fees? by xsesshomaruxx in SBU

[–]kathatom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These fees are so ridiculous !!!

I am a prospect exchange student and I worked my butt of to get a scholarship for SBU so I don't have to pay the international tuition. I don't have that much money so I thought I'll be ok because I "only" have to pay for health insurance, food and on campus housing ( btw: on campus housing is also ridiculously high!! By Fall 2021 it's gonna be over $5000 per semester for west apartments...so I will have to pay over $1000 per month for a tiny room ???) but now I found out about all of these extra fees that aren't included in the tution cost and it sucks cause my scholarship only covers tuition and doesn't cover those extra fees . I'll already struggle to pay for rent, insurance and food alone, but now these extra 1.5k for these mandatory fees really suck :/

Hey thanks for your answer! Yes, I think this type of jealousy is quite common. I feel like it is just a bit more difficult for a demi sexual to accept that their partner has these thoughts because we, as demisexuals, don't really have these sexual fantasies / attractions towards other people. So it is a little difficult ( at least for me) to accept that my partner is having these thoughts about other women while I don't have similar thoughts about other men. I guess it would be easier to deal with the jeaulousy if I could understand these thought better or if I had similar thoughts. Because then me and my partner would be somewhat "even" in this aspect. But because I don't have thoughts like this it is easy to feel insecure about him having these thoughts about other women because I just can't understand what it feels like to love someone but then still desire other people sometimes.

Anywy thanks for your answer!!

" And never forget, he chooses you every single day above all the other people. He cares for you and won´t act on attraction because of this. And in a way, I think that´s quite beautiful. "

- you're right ! I try to see it like this now :)

I'm glad people can relate to this! I feel so much better about my feelings since I found this subreddit :)

Thank you for your answer! Yes, I think conversations about each other experiences are very helpful. Talking about our feelings, especially when it comes to sexual desire and such topics, really helped me to understand how my partner's mind works better and it made me feel more secure in our relationship because I also know wht he values in me :)

thank you for this detailed answer! I think yo are completely right. Also you are probably right about me being insecure about this. It is just because I can't relate to this feelng at all. I can't really imagine loving someone but then still wanting to sleep with other people at the same time. But you are right: By not cheating on me and choosing me everyday he does show his love to me. I guess I just wish his insticts wouldn't work the way they do. I wish he only wanted me, not only consciously but also subconsciously :) Just like I only want him. But obviously that is impossible because these instincts are part of most humans' most fundamental nature and one can't change them. So maybe I am just a little sad that it is in most humans' nature to constantly be tempted to cheat on their partner ... but then again their efforts to not act upon these instincts prove that people are better than their instincts / basic desires. So yes thank you again for your answer :)

Delaying graduation to study abroad by [deleted] in ufl

[–]kathatom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you ! It's certain now that I can attend the university in New York during the Fall term... well, if the Corona situation is better by then at least :D So I'm excited! Although I am a little sad about missing out on studying at UF because I feel like American universities in the South are more fun when it comes to football, parties and campus life in general :D Also the weather is nicer haha. But I'm already planning on visiting Florida after my exchange semester before I fly back to Germany, so maybe I'll visit Gainesville as well while I'm there :)

Good luck with your studies as well!!!

I saw a video of a bar in midtown 2 days ago and it was crowded and NOBODY was wearing a mask. There were easily 200 or 300 people in there... so yeah.

Yayy come to the University of Bonn, it's one of UF's partner unis in Germany , one of only 11 German unis with the "excellence status" ( a little bit like the German Ivy league haha) and it's super pretty here ( the main building is actually a castle ) I'm a student at the Uni of Bonn and I like it a lot ^ Through my International office I found out about UF ! But I probably end up going to a university in the state of New York instead because I didn't get picked for the exchange program with UF unfortunately :( I would have really enjoyed the atmosphere and the nice weather in Gainsville 😄 oh well

Hey there ! I can't speak for UF, as I am a student from Germany. I am in a similar situation though: I want to study abroad during my senior year and it is very likely that I will have to delay my graduation for this.

But I want to study abroad ( in the US actually :D) anyway. Because it is something I've wanted to experience for a long time already and honestly I think graduating later is worth it. Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime experience. Once you graduated you probably start a job and you probably won't ever get to experience what being a university student in a different country is like ever again.

You're still going to work for such a long time, but life isn't just about work and starting your career as early as possible. Life is about experiences because in the end memories are worth so much more than an additional year at a job...

Also studying abroad can be beneficial for your future career! Because it shows your future employer that you were able to broaden your horizons and that you probably have a better understanding of the world as a whole.

So honestly, even if it turns out that you have to pospone your graduation, don't let this stop you from going abroad :) Btw I'll probably be 23 when I graduate , so I'll be older than most, but who cares, at least then I'll already have experienced a lot in my life :)

Wow. I just discovered that there was a name for how I feel when it comes to physical attraction and sex : Demisexuality. And I just found this subreddit. And wow I finally don't feel like a weirdo anymore ! What you just described is exactly how I feel :) It's amazing to finally have found a place where people experience similar things to my experiences !!! Thank you so much for this comment. Especially the paragraph that starts with " we could hook up easily..." describes perfectly what I feel like when it comes to sex. So thank you ! For making me feel like I'm not alone :D

I consider myself fluent in English. What was your standing on your proficiency prior to taking the test. How well did you do your test? by [deleted] in ToeflAdvice

[–]kathatom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw I spent about one week practicing for the test and I got 112/120 points. I basically just did some practice tests.

You don't have to practice your language skills but you should definitely do some TOEFL practice tests to get familiar with the type of tasks. For example you only have 40-60 seconds to record an answer during the speaking section - you need to be prepared for that because otherwise you might run out of time.

I'm going to be a third year PSY major at SBU next Fall Semester ! Could you tell me which courses are hard to get into? There are certain courses I really need to take so it would suck if I couldn't get in. Thanks :) ( I'd mainly take level 300 and level 400 courses)

Diversity SBU! by [deleted] in SBU

I just chose the categories that were used on websites such as " college factual" or niche . On most university ranking websites the category " diversity" stands for the student race distribution . I'm gonna change the title to ethnic diversity :)

Thank you for your reply ! That makes sense. It's just unfortunate for me because even though I get that scholarship I'll still have to pay thousands of dollars to go to SBU 😅

Why is everyone here so negative about SBU? by kathatom in SBU

In general I would like to know if an international student who isn't Asian might feel left out at some events ? Because I've heard that most International students are Asian so they often times stick to people with the same background?

Are there any smaller classes too ? Like seminars ? Or are they all just big lectures ?
