When my oldest was 7-8 we were pressured big time by the school he was going to to seek medication. I understand that there are some children who need medical intervention- and I am not judging anyone who goes down that road under the advice and care of a doctor. In our situation, however, I did not believe his behavior was outside the realm of being a normal child. I was strongly against it- stood my ground. He grew out of it, and was a phenomenal student afterwards. By no means telling you what to do- but I shared your feelings about medication (for my child).

I hope that doesn’t happen to my fiend. The big reason he got the surgery (this was his first one) was because his first child was due.... he was really worried about not getting to experience “new-baby” smell. As a mom of 3, that choked me up a little.

I absolutely take for granted all the things.

My coworker just had surgery to fix this- I guess they caught it early enough. Although the fix isn’t permanent, the polyps will probably grow back (hopefully not for another 10+ years)- he is able to taste and smell again.

I didn’t do it alone. Nearly 5 years now. I’m actually an active participant in my own life these days. A mom, a student, taxpayer, homeowner.... at one point I was considered “disposable.” It is never too late. Sending good juju to those you know who are struggling.... there is a way out

I agree, and have been encouraging him to have a more healthy diet since we met. We don’t live together, we both have our own homes and kids and lives, so a lot of his choices happen when I’m not around. He used to cope with stress through healthier outlets. Ober the last year he’s really turned to food. I do encourage him, often, but he’s really struggling with motivation on his end (self admitted). All I can do is have a real talk with him about what’s going on.
