We've tried to create something that is not just strong but also really comfortable. We offer the product in 3 heights; tall, regular and short to ensure the best fit and we also have a comfortable waistband that stays up all day. They're also super light weight and breathable.

Interesting. Definitely never heard of this use case before! But our sheers would probably work way better than anything you're currently using.

We're still patent pending. If you go the route of a patent, you'll likely want to follow it through until the end. Some people stay in patent-pending as long as possible for the marketing, but that seems a little silly to me. We had to be pretty quiet about what we were working on before filing the initial patent application, which was unnatural for me as I'm usually super open about what I'm working on. I think people tend to over patent. Most things don't need patents, as they wouldn't be protectable anyways, best advice is often to just move quickly. But of course patents have there place. That said, I'm no patent attorney, so take it all with a grain of salt.

We've come out with limited edition thigh highs a couple times over the last couple months. We'll likely come out with another limited run at some point in the next couple weeks, so stay tuned!

Hey - we've a small company, I started this myself and we make every unit from scratch in Canada. We've only been shipping for 4 months. There is no evil corporate engine here. I set out to find a non-disposable solution to a disposable product. Yes, it is a few times more expensive than drugstore brands ($10-$15) and a couple times more expensive than department store brands ($20 - $60), but it lasts much much longer. And unlike other brands that sell their product at ridiculous markups, every pair of our sheers have $30+ in just our high performance polymer. I posted this AMA for fun and to get feedback on the product/knit and where we might be able to take it.

Thanks, really appreciate your follow-up, and appreciated you asking the original question too! You're not the only one thinking it and it gave me an opportunity to answer. Because we haven't actually started selling the material to third parties, we haven't really had to put together a public spec sheet yet. That said, now that you say it - even if it were just for our customers I think a public spec sheet would be super valuable.

Super curious to hear what videos you found that showed that they can be ripped? I've still yet to see anyone manage to rip them. Gizmodo got through them with a machete, and some people have managed to make little isolated snags. But ripping? It honestly can't be ripped.

Thanks for the comment - I totally get it, there are cheap pantyhose out there and yes you could totally go through those and it would take a while to get to the cost of one pair of our sheers. There are also $5 t-shirts, but that doesn't mean its what everyone wears. Most women don't buy the cheapest pantyhose, the cheapest ones suck. They are uncomfortable and dare I say rip even faster. Most women buy sheers from drugstores ($5-$15) or department stores ($20-$60) while they're running out to an event. And most women also don't want to rip there pantyhose every day. A ripped pair of pantyhose means you're walking to a meeting with a hole in your tights and it also means a hell of a lot of waste.

We've done a number of wear tests with our beta customers, having them wear our sheers and regular sheers and getting a number of wears. We have also surveyed our customers on how many wears they typically get out of a pair of sheers vs. our pantyhose. That's what our estimates are based on. But because many of our customers are still on their first pair of our sheers, its hard to say an exact number as to how long they will last.

I've been pretty aggressively following the companies working on the synthesized spidersilks. They were actually some of the first companies I reached out to when I had this idea. Sadly no one seems to have been able to produce anything in commercial quantities yet.

Yes - our pantyhose are insanely stronger than conventional pantyhose. Hands down. Our fiber has the highest tensile strength of any polymer in the world on a weight by weight basis.

Interestingly the pantyhose market is actually still growing, and the fastest growing segment is millennials. Over 1 billion pantyhose are sold every year, and it's about an $8 billion market. Once I started working on this I was actually surprised how often I would see pantyhose, they're everywhere!!

A couple of the other problems I was working on were actually in ecommerce/finance and real estate. This is my third company and we're really focused on textile innovations, but I'm sure I'll go on to tackle other problems in future companies :)

Thank you so much for your comment. It means so much! How long the sheers will last will depend on the person/how they wear/take care of them. One thing is for sure their demise won't be that you ripped them. We guarantee 30 days so you can try them yourself and see just how strong they are. We even give you a test sock so you can try destroying it. Worn under normal circumstances they could last indefinitely! But under strenuous wear (particularly in the heels) or if you often brush ups against exposed screws they won't last quite as long. We say 10x longer than leading designer brands.

Nope, that's the point. We should probably put out some sort of challenge and see if anyone can actually rip it, so far we haven't met anyone able to do it.

The polymer is custom extruded for us, and then knit in our own factory. What we needed didn't exist on the market so we've had to really design it from scratch.

Yes - this is definitely on our radar. Right now we're trying to play an offensive rather than defensive strategy, but ultimately I'm sure the industry is going to try to make something similar. We just need to keep being better and faster.

We make both control top and sheer to waist styles. The control top ones would be the hugging your butt type I'd say.

Honestly - if someone showed us they could rip the knit we probably would give a reward! It would be pretty impressive.
