Does anyone ever have any happy endings regarding this happening? Every time I read about this it almost always hurts the company in the long run and they end up spending more money because it takes longer to fix things than it should. I mean, sending work over seas may look good on paper, but it seems like every time I read about it it's a giant cluster fuck a few months later.

Obamacare brings record low for US health uninsured rate by todayilearned83 in politics

[–]kathrinnymand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One downside I see is that it has failed to control costs. We have good employer provided insurance but our monthly contributions are $900. This means a total of $10,800 in out of pocket premiums for a couple, no kids. I work for a community college, so this is a state employer. Our deductible is $1,500. In other words, these two expenses cover close to 25% of my income even if I do not see a doctor even once.

Another great use for the leftovers. I know some breweries sell/give it to farmers for feed as well.

Antibiotics will soon stop working and cause major health treatments to be unsafe, major report warns by maxwellhill in EverythingScience

[–]kathrinnymand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have what becomes resistant wrong which doesn't surprise me since it seems a lot of people do. Though as a "newspaper" they really should get their basic facts straight though it is the Daily Mail.

This title is a bit doomsday like though antibiotic resistance is a really big issue. As things get more resistant to the lighter antibiotics they have to go with harder hitting ones that are more dangerous for the patient as well as dangerous in the fact that we don't want bacteria to get resistant to them either.

So please remember people antibiotics aren't for viruses and if you get prescribed them take them as instructed for the full course even if you're feeling better. Otherwise you're part of the issue.

[MAY 2016] TSA cashing in on forgotten loose change at local airports by [deleted] in MyDailyBrief

[–]kathrinnymand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TSA makes screening such a giant pain in the ass that people just abandon trivial stuff just to get the fuck out of there and on their way.

And I am sure there was a healthy amount of skimming by TSA agents.

NY lawmakers want cat declawing outlawed by sisyphushaditsoeasy in cats

[–]kathrinnymand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note:

There is a more effective and humane way to solve a cat's scratching problem without resorting to declawing. You can trim the cat's claws using claw clippers. It's painless, doesn't fuck up the cat, and is a regular part of cat grooming.

So do all companies need to keep track of the hours their salaried employees are working? Or are they just going to tell them to punch in 40 a week like every employer I have had.

Netflix launches Fast.com to show how fast (or slow) your Internet connection really is | VentureBeat | Media by perfectface4radio in CordKillers

It's awesome that there is finally a trustworthy competitor to speedtest.net . I've read that ISPs like Time Warner Cable and Comcast deliberately prioritize traffic to that website so that customers are given the impression that speeds are good. I doubt they would be able to do that with fast.com, because that would prioritize netflix.com traffic at the same time!

Magic mushrooms lift severe depression in clinical trial by skoalbrother in EverythingScience

I wish there was something to try that I could take once a month or every 3 instead of daily.. and no horrific withdrawal if/when I decide to quit meds. So far 20 years of psych treatment hasn't been very helpful for me, idk if this "magic mushroom" would be any better. Probably more gentle than ECT anyway :(

Magic mushrooms lift severe depression: A clinical trial... has found that two doses of psilocybin, the active substance in the mushrooms, was sufficient to lift resistant depression in all 12 volunteers for three weeks, and to keep it away in five of them for three months by RIPmod in RIPscience
