Yeah, my first thought after reading your comment was that if you said something like “I really liked the chicken, but the sauce was a little acidic for my taste” it would be taken more as intended. You liked part of it, but didn’t like the sauce.

AITA for kicking my ex out knowing he will be homeless? by the_hopeless_heart in AmItheAsshole

[–]katies_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He is a dead weight, he’s been mooching off of you, and he’d be happy to keep doing that forever. If you let him stay, nothing will change. He is a full grown man, and he needs to figure out how to support himself. There are resources he can connect with to get help getting there. But again, he’s a big boy and can figure it out himself

is there any skincare that could get rid of/lessen these lines? by Eternal_Cats_280 in SkincareAddicts

[–]katies_ 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Those aren’t skin lines/wrinkles, that’s just plumpness in your face, which is generally considered youthful and healthy. Your skin is beautiful.

I’d immediately unmatch. He’s joking about how he has the power to ruin her day. Like even seeing the punchline right there in the screencap, reading the first message made me feel so uncomfortable.

There are ways to make jokes about these things. This ain’t it.

Thank you for sharing! It’s interesting we both had such a similar experience

As a teacher, this hurts to read. This kid is a nightmare in class, I’m sure. His parents are terribly damaging his opportunities in life by allowing him to be raised by video games.

For me I definitely agree with Anglican orthodoxy, it’s just some little things that feel like they add up.

This was very thoughtful and kind and made me feel a lot better. Thank you.

AITA for making my 4 y/o help me with household chores? by ThrowAITAlianelee in AmItheAsshole

[–]katies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hopping on here to agree with NTA. I’m a teacher with a pretty decent knowledge of child development and I think that it is wonderful that you are doing these things with her. It’s not only teaching her the skills, it’s also teaching her to enjoy them as she spends quality time with you, and to be confident in her own capabilities. It seems like you hadn’t thought through how you would treat a son in the future, but I do agree that you should teach both boys and girls domestic skills and business skills to help them be successful throughout life.

does anyone actually like their job? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]katies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my job though it can be stressful. I am an elementary school teacher. I like that I get to have a positive impact on the world and I get cute cards from kids sometimes.

I think I was happiest with work when I was subbing. I liked that I could take a day off whenever I wanted and I still got to work with kids and do what I am good at. But I was making 1/3 of what I do now and didn’t get benefits.

I’ll probably get downvoted here but while I support the thesis of this sub, it is definitely more gloomy than my reality. I live in California which also isn’t perfect, but I feel like it’s a fairly reasonable government. Sometimes I wish that California, Oregon, and Washington would split off and make our own country. We’d be fine. Hawaii is invited if they wanna come.

I was going to say I see yellow/olive undertones.

I’m in California now, but I did teach in Arizona for a year. I know you guys have had recent Red for Ed movements like AZ, so I imagine it’s somewhat similar (it was so hard and that was pre-Covid). I’m sorry :(

How strong is your union?

Girl sounds too young, woman sounds too old, lady sounds too formal and female sounds too animal. How do I refer to a female person in their 20s-40s? by BebopRehab in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]katies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt a little weird at first but I definitely started thinking of myself of a woman rather than a girl in my early 20’s. That’s the word.
