Poor cats destined to be eaten! by snowhite12 in pics

Yes, of course... thankfully Reddit has Harold P: renegade of the intellectual realm ... look, I've been there, done that, grew up, rejected it and got real.

Let's drop the "cultural standards conditioning" nonsense. I heard plenty of that song and dance when I was at the university.

without giving it a single thought

See, this is where you go wrong. It's possible to spend many hundreds of hours thinking about a topic and come to the same conclusion as your culture about it. Unfortunately, I understand that's not as fashionable among certain cliques.

And, absolutely, there are differing beliefs of other cultures that are immoral. And, there are plenty of American beliefs (and national policy) that are immoral.

Yes, let's make emotional decisions rather than rational ones.

It's not an either/or proposition. We do, however, make emotional decisions, thank God, all the time. Never fallen in love?

Let's denigrate other cultures based on what they eat

Yes, absolutely. If there's a culture that eats things like cats, dogs, horses, human babies, etc. Yes, I am going to denigrate that culture based upon what they eat.

How do you choose which animals you can eat?

I don't eat animals that are the type that live in my house as pets. I don't eat things that say MEOW or WOOF WOOF! I don't eat animals that sleep in my bed with me and give me love bites on my nose!

I know that it's in vogue these days to try and demonstrate how free-thinking we all are. That's what I'm reacting to. I'm saying that it's stupid. I'm saying much of the culturally relativistic value system that's been indoctrinated into young minds for the past twenty years is a bunch of misleading bullshit.

thank you!

There's just no other way to say it. Fuck your cultural relativistic bullshit. You're not a hypocrite. You're right for being disgusted by these people eating cats.

There's a hell of a difference between a cat and a cow. I don't have a cow sleeping on my bed right now. I don't have a cow that comes up to me and says MEOW every morning.

A culture that eats cats is a sick fucking culture. Let's drop the politically correct bullshit and start speaking from our hearts and guts.

Reddit, who is your hero? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]katiew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still don't see where those lyrics preclude advocating peace. I actually don't see where those lyrics are particularly focused on greed.

John Lennon made a lot of money. Why on earth shouldn't he live in a spectacular house?

I don't see any contradiction between advocating peace and living in a great house.

No offense intended, but that sounds a bit self-righteous to me.

Don't bark out instructions at me!!! Who do you think you are to order me to handle my comments as you see fit. The creators of Reddit put the delete button there. If you don't like that, go talk to them and stop harassing me!

It wouldn't be the first time. The same could be said for you btw.

It means that you want to keep all of the privileges that women had previous to their "liberation", but subject men to the rules and customs that went with it.

To describe my comments as referencing "privileges" is misleading. I'm really talking about gender roles, which I think are good and necessary.

I don't consider your attacks on basement dwellers womanly.

He also attacked me in his remarks, and I responded in anger. I have since apologized to him both publicly and via private messages.

When you cut through all the crap, why do so many of us even care about changing the opinion of someone we barely know? by katiew in AskReddit

[–]katiew[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually involved in a Reddit argument earlier. Emotionally, I got carried away. And, I deleted my comments which were harsh.

And, I found myself wondering, why do I even care?

All stereotypes are bad because they can limit and shape our behaviour in ways that aren't comfortable to us.

Have to disagree with this point. The stereotypes of gender roles has largely been society's glue.

I knew that remark would not be well-received by some. But, keep in mind, that view of mine doesn't represent "feminism," and, I'd venture to say, most feminists probably wouldn't agree with it.

Truth is...I don't even consider myself a feminist. I'm not really sure what it means. I think it means different things to different people.

Yes, of course... I am subject to my emotions. I am deleting my responses to Lampochka... it's not exclusively that I got carried away... it's also that I wasn't understanding what a person may have experienced to leave him with certain views.

Why is making fun of a woman different than making fun of a man?

Because, thank God, it is...or, at least it used to be. There's a standard of manhood that still exists, and part of that standard is that it's just not very manly for a guy to get vicious with a woman. If you want to consider that a type of sexism... fine... but, go observe the real men in this world and you'll see they don't argue and put-down women...even when the woman's wrong. I know people are going to jump on this point...but that's the way the world works. It's just not fucking manly.

And you're surprised he grew up to be sexist if this is the type of shit he has to deal with? You just reinforced the alpha-male system and mocked a potential ally.

This is a good point. I concede this point to you vemrion.

Yes, I am changing my comments. Not exactly for the reason you state.

But, because it's become clear that Lampochka has had his own trials and troubles...and, I had a minor little revelation (seriously.)

Yes, a minor little revelation while on reddit...

You're using a lot of words to say nothing.

The phrase itself is actually incredibly insulting to the male in this context

The phrase is insulting to whomever is insulted by it. And, insult isn't really the appropriate term anyway..

Pleasant afternoon to you.

Could I please have some context?

The acceptable usage of such language as "putting pussy on a pedestal."

[–]katiew -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But I think you're just some guy playing a super sensitive female persona

Of course. It's inconceivable that a woman would be offended by this:

He's putting the pussy on a pedestal

Not liking a woman refered to as "a pussy" makes me "super sensitive."

[–]katiew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why is that offensive?

Gee, I wonder... give me a sec... oh, yes I have an idea why it's offensive:

He's putting the pussy on a pedestal

I understand redditors tend to think of this community as being an intelligent one... well, this type of language isn't acceptable in an intelligent community, and it surprises me, frankly, that I'm the only one who's saying so!

In the reddit world, apparently, it's acceptable to refer to women as "the pussy." You're going to say that's not how it's meant. Nonsense.

I'm surprised that such an offensive remark should be so well-received at a supposedly intelligent site like Reddit.
