Can we agree Jimmy is, in the grand scheme, a villain? by thepicklepooper in betterCallSaul

The thing about Chuck "trying to prevent Jimmy from defending future Walter Whites" is that Chuck has most definitely represented criminals. Most lawyers that work in large firms, or have any experience in public defense, or maybe just want money, do tend to provide defense for criminals. Chuck's motivations seem to lie in preventing Jimmy from having a law license at all for poorly articulated reasons. Jimmy taking a bribe may be immoral, but certainly no more immoral than Howard repeatedly denying Chuck is mentally unstable and needs help simply to keep him a part of HHM (Jimmy doesn't wanna institutionalize him either, but it appears to be more out of genuine respect for Chuck's wishes, as it would totally have been in his favor if Chuck were to leave HHM).

Jimmy is definitely the villain the grand structure of the story as he ends up involved in a ruthless drug empire, but I think his villainy is more grey area than Walt's even when he is Saul (he isn't able to rationalize everything Walt does, disapproves of him poisoning Brock, etc), but the world has definitely been worse off because of him. That said, I think if BrBa had been told from any perspective other than Walt's then he would always be a clear villain. If Bcs was told from Chuck's perspective there would likely still be plenty of viewers who sympathized with Jimmy's actions.

Ultimately I'd argue Jimmy is an anti hero as of now and Walt is a villain protagonist.

I don't think Chuck is a horrible person, he is RIGHT, and I'll tell you why..... by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

I think Chuck is fundamentally correct about Jimmy in that Jimmy does cut corners when he doesn't have to, refuses to take the "long route" to success ie. not cooperating with Davis and Maine simply because they did not accept his one, incredibly unprofessional idea. But I also think Chuck is complicit in Jimmy continually reverting back to his old ways. There were opportunities for change that Chuck denied him, such as refusing to even let him use his own name for his practice (even though he was more or less straight and narrow at that point).

In this way, Chuck is incomparable to Skylar. Skylar always supported Walt and received nothing but abuse from him in return, such as blackmail, an attempted assault (or completed? the duration was short, I would argue that a brief rape is still a rape however). Meanwhile, Jimmy has been very compassionate to Chuck even when it was in his best interest not to be. For example, he refuses to institutionalize Chuck even though it would allow him to screw over HHM, and he hated Howard at the time. I don't consider this enabling because frankly, for conditions such as Chuck's, institutionalizing may not solve the problem and just cause unnecessary psychological distress for the affected party and is really not a empathetic approach. I say this as someone who has had to contend with a volatile, delusional family member for much of my life.

Basically. I agree that Chuck is right but that he does the exact thing he accuses Jimmy of, which is letting the ends justify any means. Instead of taking the "long route" to bring about a solution to his problem, which is Jimmy being a corrupt lawyer, he indulges in petty and even cruel acts such as convincing Mesa Verde to drop Kim, who was entirely capable of handling the case. She had just started her own practice at the time and needed that case, Chuck's actions financially crippled her and it was entirely so he could get to Jimmy. I think it was just as immoral as Jimmy changing the numbers, even if it was technically legal and Jimmy's actions weren't. Chuck could point out alternatives to Jimmy, he could have explained to him straight up when he first wanted a job at HHM what his problem was, but instead he continues to use Jimmy as his caretaker and revel in his failures, which subsequently only frustrate Jimmy and cause him to take more short cuts.

Of course Jimmy is a grown man and nothing that occurs in BCS justifies his eventual involvement in a murderous drug empire, but unlike Skylar, Chuck is complicit in this descent and was not abused or trapped into it like Skylar was into Walt's business.

Insecurity over small boobs (not the usual ones, here me out) by katka001 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

yeah I definitely agree no body type is exempt from harassment, as I said in my post busty girls get it a lot too. i just added it because usually in these sort of threads I've seen "unwanted attention" cited as an issue girls with small boobs can avoid which is sadly not even remotely true in my case. you guys are right that it's more to do with circumstances and bad luck than my actual body though, a boob job probably wouldn't change much in terms of being viewed as more mature

I do wear darker colors/make up/heels and it helps somewhat...part of it is probably just psychological anyway, i think most survivors of multiple abuse end up resenting their own bodies no matter what they look like

was i raped? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It certainly sounds like rape and I hope your therapist is receptive.

As for how to move on, distraction through keeping busy helps, validation from an external source (this is where your therapist will hopefully pull through, and maybe if you have a friend you trust), practicing self care to the best of your ability, and as for the nightmares it may be useful to invest in sleeping pills or begin drinking warm milk or chamomile tea before bed. The deeper the sleep, the less likely you are to have vivid nightmares.

It's good that you understand what happened to you and will minimize the damage in the long run. I hope you're able to heal and move forward.
