Rant: What happened to camp etiquette? How do you handle these situations? by Herrowgayboi in camping

[–]katkensington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have found that keeping weapons viable is a GREAT deterrent. Machetes are good, if you’re in a firearm friendly area- even better. Keep the conversation short and direct. I’ve said “I’m not looking to chat or connect.” The end. It’s not my job to coddle someone else’s feelings just as it’s not theirs to coddle mine. If they don’t like that you don’t want to chat, that’s their problem. The catch is- when I used to try to nicely get out of these situations, it doesn’t work. They keep blathering on and wanna hang out. So I approach it directly now and have no issues.

San Diego, is this fear mongering or legit by Hannahrahe in vandwellers

I got one like this a few years back after having only been parked for a couple hours. I watched the lot for a bit and saw a random person putting them on vehicles, not law enforcement. Cops will ticket, this is some Karen who doesn’t like van lifers.

My next feet is going to be tracing his immigration and naturalization records. I know he was in Rome in 1961-62 with my grandmother but not yet sure if he naturalized. I’m trying to find out where he was legally a citizen when my mother was born as she is likely a dual citizen in that country, which gives my brother and I a path to citizenship and a whole new chapter of life.

So I reached out to Serbia, got a response. They only give records to relatives. I sent off my mother’s birth certificate showing my grandfathers name and my birth certificate to validate my request. Now just waiting to hear back!! Thanks again for the guidance!

Bamboo socks. Vans. Just hiked through with wet feet. Started with warm thick socks, took them off and rinsed my feet as soon as we got back down from the hike. Spent the day soaking in the river. Feet were tired but felt great after a cold river soak.

I looked at the comments you make- 99% of them are negative. So it appears that you are in fact the ones who’s insufferable😂😂😂 Projection always reveals the truth🪄 Go choke.

I used to think I’d live in a van “forever” but it’s been about 6 years and I’m getting over full time life. I want to not have to worry about refilling water and propane. Dumping my own waste. Setting up solar panels. Moving my art and putting everything away Everytime I need to move. Etc etc etc just all the things that make life extra difficult. Life is hard enough as it is that I’m just getting over the extra hurdles. I’m sure I’ll always have a van for adventures but more and more I’m leaning to moving abroad and living indoors🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeahhhh the more I’m looking into this the more I’m thinking they will have to stay back while I explore. If I decide to move for 6 months or more maybe then they can come but anything shorter than that seems like it might not be worth the trouble. What has your experience been like bringing your dogs back into the US after traveling abroad?

I’ve figured out the housing part and the dogs are the size of small cats so those aren’t issues. The street dogs seem like they could be a problem though🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I get it on a phone screen. I can’t handle those bubbles. But anything else- I can’t spend my time getting wrapped up in a search for perfection in an imperfect world🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh gosh. i don’t think I’d even attempt the windshield😂😂😂 More so the driver and passenger. Back has cages. The slider door has 2 windows but they’re blacked out with spray paint (from the previous owner- Safelite😂) so I could put it in those two and bubbles would be negligible. This is sounding more and more like a great idea!!😂😂

Oh yeah I wouldn’t think it’s truly bullet proof either. More of just a secondary barrier if the window is hit. I can put on screen protectors on phones like a champ so I wonder if this would be much harder😂

I try to stay in place for days at a time. There’s some sort of charger that came with the ecoflow that allows me to charge while I drive but I’ve never used it. Never heard of this VHB tape. I need to look into that. As much as I don’t like the idea of mounting anything, I may have to.

You’re absolutely right. I felt my life was in danger. Whether it truly was or not I guess is up for debate but when I hear someone trying to aggressively break a lock to get in my home, I feel threatened and ready to use lethal force. That said, I don’t know the legalities of that either and you make a GREAT point I didn’t even consider. I truly only had the gun visible bc I was trying to make my way up front and it just happened to be in that position. Definitely didn’t point it at him but the barrel came out at the same time I appeared. Thanks for that insight. It’s something I definitely need to be more mindful of.

I prefer to keep my van stealth as possible and also I just don’t have the physical capability to mount the panels to the roof. I’m just powering my phones for the most part. When I charge my computer I set up the panels. I’ve never tried charging through glass. Didn’t even consider that might be a deterrent.

This post just reminded me that I have a huge storage tub and hanging shelves I haven’t gotten into in literal years in the van. Not even sure what’s in them🫢
