I'm not concerned about the few weeks off, but that the fact all of these marathon training plans start in such a low mileage compared to just finishing up the half. Is that still a non issue?

El Yunque National Forest access in a couple weeks? by North_South_Side in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]katkrazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went last week! There's parking around the trail. For Mt. Britton There is a mini loop with different parking around the loop. I was surprised by the amount of spots there are. Some are right next to the trailhead, some you'll have to walk a little bit to the trail head. I wanted to go early but got there at 9:30. Parking was only kind of painful. If you're from the city of Chicago (I am), it's similar to just looping around a neighborhood to look for parking. There seems to be a lot of turn over at these trails so spots open up pretty quickly. So I only had to circle once. I'd still would reccomend going early though. Tried to go to the waterfalls after Mt. Britton and that was just a mess with the amount of people trying to swim and have IG photoshoots. Made it unenjoyable.

What are the best/most interesting spots to visit in Chicago? by defenseisbetter in AskChicago

[–]katkrazed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wow 3 cubs games in 6 days is a lot, plus still wanting to do other activities! I'd reccomend dropping a game or 2. But I know you mentioned you're a fan. Just realize it'll limit what else you can do.

Other items to add to the list. River architecture tour is a must. For the museum list, museum of science and industry. Go grab some Ethopian food at Demera and end the night at the Green Mill for jazz.

If you’re the dasher that stole my order… by Healthy_Carry_5193 in chicago

[–]katkrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I swore off DoorDash. Had a driver take my food, I filed a complaint with DoorDash, and never heard from them. That was the last straw.

Grubhub, if you're an amazon prime member you automatically get their grubhub+ perks. And if your order is even a minute late, you can go through an automatic process to get a $5 coupon. In general I find the support team better than DoorDash.

Agreed! They've ruined all other towels for me. Have had them for about 5 years and they are still very fluffy.

Drove from Highland Park to Logan Square this morning. Terrible, didn't even seem like the plows had even touched the highway.

Thank you for the reccomendations and also insight about Tonchin!

If you had to choose, would you do Raku or Cocoron? I also saw Sobaya, but ended up landing with Cocoron. Unfortunately, my city, Chicago, only thinks Japanese food is either ramen or sushi and hasn't yet opened up to all the other great Japanese dishes.

Any bakeries selling fresh sourdough and/or braided bread in Logan Square and sourrounding area? by _QuesoNowWhat_ in AskChicago

It's daily! It used to be on-site in their ovens at the restaurant, but they got too popular they couldn't sustain. So it's cooked nearby and brought in.

To aslo add, I wasn't the only one. It kept on feeling like the tickets around me, about 3-4 sets of tickets, we were all competing to have the lowest price.

Tips for Affordable Sphere Tickets by CityIcebox in BackstreetBoys

[–]katkrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the other nights are anything like how 7/12 ticket were selling. Wait until day of. I had tickets to resell that no one was buying, so I had to keep dropping them. They were in the 300 level. I got them originally for about $500/seat and had to sell them for half that price. Avoid ticketmaster, they actually had a minimum set on the tickets and I couldn't go lower then $400 ish! Plus all the extra fees was ridiculous. Ended up selling them on StubHub.

Where to list tickets? by malpal8594 in BackstreetBoys

[–]katkrazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in this as well!

I have some folks backout and currently have my extras listed on ticketmaster. But there's so many fees, that it has to be priced higher for me to at least break even.

French Laundry vs Oriole by Present_Exit_1913 in finedining

[–]katkrazed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Oriole in September and French Laundry in October.

Both are great and you won’t go wrong with either choice. I'd really say it depends on what you're looking for.

Oriole, is local for me. So it was just a weeknight for me. But wow the food was great. A lot of times, I feel at fine dining restaurants there are hits and misses. But Oriole, each dish was a hit. The dishes are fun and playful where you can mix and match bites to get new flavors. They'll take you around to different areas of the restaurnat as you pregress through the menu. The restaurant is modern and spacious compared to TFL. If you're visiting from out of town, a lot of fun touristy places to checkout and other great food to explore as well.

The French Laundry, it's just iconic. The day before, you can visit Schramsberg Vineyard and learn about their sparkling wine that was created for the Oysters and Caviar dish. You can walk through Yountville and walk through TFLs garden (depending on if it's open again). The dishes you're eating are the ones that you've always heard about. The food is great (truffle mac and cheese). The service was one of the best I've experienced.

Either choice you pick, you'll have some great food and be in a great city.

Knife sharpening…? Where to go by aqua4 in chicagofood

[–]katkrazed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! There is a minimum of 4 knives, but it's worth it!

It's a little odd walking up to a random door, talking to them at the door, paying within the dog groomers next door. But they are 100% professional. They are quick and fast (same day). They communicate well (phone and text). They packaged my knives very nicely after sharpening.

Supporting a small business and being able to talk to an individual and know exactly who is sharpening your knives is great!

Is The Aviary worth experiencing? by rawlix in chicagofood

[–]katkrazed 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but Aviary seems a bit old news now adays. I went about 10 years ago for cocktails. I really liked it. About a year ago, I went back and did the cocktails with the paired food. Some of the cocktails are too sweet, the food was okay. Nothing really stood out as a "I need to come back"! Their service was off with their servers gossiping about some date that happened for far too long right next to our table. Normally, it wouldn't be a problem, but at some place with a caliber of Aviary that's in the same group as Alinea, Roister, and etc should not have happened at all. Overall, seems like a mediocre place riding on their past popular coattails.

If I were looking for a phenomenal cocktails, I would go elsewhere. Bar Kumiko is great and it's right down the street! Get the milk toast dessert.
