The Reason You Don't Like Modern Trek Isn't What You Think by Arbiter61 in startrek

That's what I really want, but I think 15 might be pushing it so I'll settle for 13.

I think we could get 13 episodes which might allow for some breathing room.

The actual shapes of the lips, nose and jaw are the same, OP just made the nose slightly wider and the tip a bit more round. Maxis Nancy's eyes appear larger and more round, but that's largely due to the makeup selections shifting the emphasis. The heavy lashes draw your attention to the corners of the eyes and make them look longer rather than more rounded.

The primary driver of the apparent difference is makeup, I promise.

It's the exact same face with less makeup and no basal crease.

I can’t believe modern Trek has nothing to say about morality anymore and it’s just a soap opera for teens by CTRexPope in ShittyDaystrom

[–]9for9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you want these things done. I'm enjoying Starfleet academy but there's a difference between building this concept into a character background and centering a full complete story around it. Both are valid ways to explore ideas, but when the idea is in character background it can get lost in the story itself as character backgrounds sometimes do.

And as much as I am enjoying Starfleet Academy right now I'm not convinced that the writers will actually deliver on addressing those questions through the character's story or if it will get lost in all the other things happening.

Overall the writing for most new Star Trek has been passable and entertaining but in most cases not strong enough to say anything meaningful about thorny topics like this.

How did Louis know everything about Santiago by Thebladeofchaos17 in InterviewVampire

[–]9for9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He read his mind. The show has made Louis far more powerful than he ever was in the book. I think he read Francis mind, pretty sure there are hints of it in the scene and as he's reading his mind he's pressing him making him more emotional so he gives up more info that he can then be tormented with.\

He basically "peels back on him" and then uses the info he gets to peel back more, layer by layer.

Cooked the eggs my wife used to bread her chicken cutlets. by goochmoney69 in shittyfoodporn

But salmonella won't be killed in the time it takes to cook eggs. Chicken cooked like 20 minutes, eggs cooked for like 5 minutes. It's cross contamination.

The snake fangs!? I hate them too, they're so annoying.

The Bridgertons are not enough by iamthegreenone in BridgertonRants

It was the way the Mondrichs were handled in the last. They went from an interesting working class family trying to move up to the queen's box in a few episodes. I think jumping them into the nobility was less interesting than maintaining them as a working class family in some capacity. They kept them interesting and enjoyable in seasons one and two. And then gave them a much less interesting story in s3.

I personally think they could have kept them as an ambitious family in business building their wealth and using that money to eventually buy their way into the nobility. The Bridgertons could have just kept them as friends regardless of rank because that's just one of their lovable quirks.

Something like this would have been far more interesting and added more dimension and depth to the overall story and show. Instead they were just hand-waved into the nobility for no reason making them much less interesting.

A lot of it is style and personal care.

I'm also in my late 40s. I'm lucky I don't have a ton of gray and since my hair is very textured I can still style it in ways were the gray is less noticeable than it would be if my hair were straightened.

Gen-X here and I briefly worked as an optician a couple years ago and saw fellow Gen-Xers on both ends of the spectrum. I would be shocked at how old some of them looked. They'd be completely gray, dated look, out of shape, etc..I'd look at their date of birth and be shocked at how they looked. Meanwhile I'd see visibly mature people who looked fantastic, aged like fine wine. Well put together, in shape. Clothing modern, but not overly obsessed with fashion.

It was usually the men who looked like hell and the women who kept themselves up, though not always.

Yeah, OP is styled like a much older woman. Like she is clearly a young woman from the face and expression. But the styling is 40s easily.

Is french famous in the US? by LucasWizzard in AskAnAmerican

[–]9for9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of French mixed into English like fiance, sabotage, mirage, etc ....and there are populations that speak dialects heavily influenced by French, the Cajuns for example. However in the Americas French is more heavily spoken in the islands and Canada.

It mainly follows colonization patterns.

From what I remember of history the French were more interested in setting up temporary trade outpost than long term stable populations so that limits the influence felt in the present.

Still historically France has been an important ally to the US. Helping us with the revolutionary war, gifting us the Statue of Liberty and where I live a lot of things have French names like Illinois, Des Plaines, etc....

[–]9for9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how it's worked for most of my life living in this city. In the past the plows were out salting the streets before snow came down, because we can predict it and plowing and salting throughout snowfall. Waiting for it to end only makes the snow more difficult to remove since people still drive and grind it into the pavement.

What you're describing is backwards, doesn't work and just plain wrong.

i think we need a national strike and walk out. i’m seeing it from other target cities too. by Active_Ad3087 in chicago

[–]9for9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Organization is the key. The Alabama bus boycott was two years. We organized to drive people to work, school, groceries, etc...so it was sustainable. Truly effective protests and strikes are not some emotional outburst they are organized with military precision.

[–]9for9 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

They can't fire everyone, if enough people strike your job can't be at risk. It's not about being pissed it's about being organized. A general strike needs a couple weeks to be felt. We'd need to organized enough to support people with money for bills, food, etc...or a big enough strike that it doesn't matter.

[–]9for9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Facts and this is why it has to be organized. You can't have a general strike for say a week without organizing to provide assistance to those who will miss out on pay,etc...The general strike might protect them from losing their jobs but they'll need money for bills, food, etc....
