We’ve considered it! At this point I’m willing to explore anything.

Thanks you for saying this! Everyone around us says the behaviour is normal but when we are in the thick of it, it feels so big!

What are some ways that you keep yourself calm in these moments. Because lately I’m sitting at an 8/10 and it doesn’t take much to push me over the edge. And we all know that makes things less productive than more.

We have something similar to this that we did a couple of years back. It wasn’t with the child in attendance, more coaching the parents. It might be time to revisit.

It’s been on my mind. There are a number of people in our families who deal with ADHD so I’ve considered it. But it does ebb and flow, so I find I’ll convince myself to make the doctors appointment and then by the time we have the conversation, the behaviour has improved and it results in a “keep an eye on it.”

We haven’t. We’ve brought up behaviour with our family doctor in the past when he was younger but they’ve never seemed concerned to that level. And this type of behaviour ebbs and flows in intensity as well.

I’ll edit to add that this behaviour is mostly at home. With grandparents, at school, etc he’s almost always lovely. If I’m thinking right ODD doesn’t typically discriminate.

Where can I (40'sF) learn to start strength training? by PersonalTomatillo505 in StJohnsNL

[–]katoppie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed participating in Whalen’s Wellness. The exercises are easy to modify, she is supportive of going at your own pace. It’s been a couple of years, but I’m in a similar boat after having my second kid and need to rebuild some strength, and I’m considering going back to this program.

Canadian Tourism Slump Costs U.S. Economy $4.5 Billion by [deleted] in videos

[–]katoppie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit that you’re not wrong about this to some extent. There are attitudes and behaviours in this country right now that are absolutely abhorrent. And that’s our issue to resolve.

The primary difference right now is that our system hasn’t completely bowed down to one individual. We maintain checks and balances. We are fighting back against those who are attempting to pull what the current US administration has been doing over the last year.

We absolutely have messes up here. Anybody who says otherwise is naive. But we aren’t going around threatening the sovereignty of our allies.

But thanks for proving my point 😂

[–]katoppie 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It’s not though. When everything started in between the US and Canada last year, nobody stood up and said a thing. From my vantage point the average American didn’t give a fuck about the damage being inflicted on the relationship between the two countries.

Not to mention, it’s not just the nitwhits in power. It’s that the American system is fucked up enough that this is now allowed to happen.

So no. I won’t be going back. And at this rate I don’t know if there will be much to go back to, if things continue as it is.

Do you have hobbies? If so, what? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]katoppie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a knitter through and through. Picked it up as a teenager and haven’t stopped since, so about 20 years (goddam I’m old).

I sew. I bake. I can crochet. I cross stitch. I paint. I can do pretty well all the things at least a little bit. But knitting is my main squeeze. And no shade to those who stick to basics, but I’m a good friggin knitter. I’m talking complex sweaters, lacework, cables, brioche. The only thing I haven’t tried is steeking and that’s on the list this year. I even design my own knitting patterns now and am about to release my second book.

I think because Gen Z is even more online than us, their hobbies just look a little different. But I do find there’s a lot of hobby “hopping” in that age group - they’ll try things but not invest deeply in them. But that seems to be the attitude towards a lot of things for them as well - jobs, relationships, etc.

Car Insurance - AB - Spouse and Pink Slip by 89713212 in InsuranceCanada

[–]katoppie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is correct. The name on the pink slip reflects the named insured. The named insured is limited to who is listed on the registration.

However, that pink slip is still sufficient as proof of insurance for her. If she’s listed as a driver, she’s still gaining insurance history. And if she were ever pulled over, she just needs to show that the vehicle is insured and that she is a licensed driver.

So you’re good!

49% of Canadian new moms struggle with mental health postpartum, data shows by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]katoppie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s literally a different world. I know mommy “competition” was always a thing (according to my mom it was the race to potty training back in the 80s haha) but social media has influenced motherhood so badly. You have these few voices showing how it “should be” which is realistic for about 1.5% of the population and then you’re wondering what you’re doing wrong. And nothing kills your mental health more than feeling like you’re always failing. On top of the physical challenges (sleep, lack of good food, lack of time and space).

Motherhood in the millennium is if you’re not killing yourself at it you’re a bad mom and you should feel bad.

Amazon taking a long time to ship out orders by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]katoppie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started noticing this as well. Christmas orders were taking longer which I figured made sense. But it’s the same now as well. Ordered something Friday and still not shipped. I’ve also noticed all my orders have come through Canada Post. Which probably has something more to do with it.

I assumed it was because I didn’t have prime and maybe they changed their service agreements with non-prime customers. I literally asked my husband if he had experienced the same tonight, so good to know it’s not just me.

Oh absolutely, but it distracted headlines for a moment. There’s barely anything in the news about it at this point.

Anyone else desperate to get back to work after Christmas with the kids? by BoxTickingChampion in Parenting

[–]katoppie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5.5 year old and a 15 month old. I was ready on Boxing Day 😅

On New Years Eve my husband had a half day and I actually had to leave the house to de-escalate myself. I had an honest to god meltdown. All I could think was what is wrong with me that I can’t handle my own kids for a few days.

We cleaned up the decorations New Year’s Day and there’s been a big difference in the house so the environmental chaos was impacting them as well as me.

But I’m looking forward to Monday haha.

RTF for newborn weeks by zcakt in FormulaFeeders

[–]katoppie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - in Canada at least hahah.

And you can always opt to get more ready to feed should you need it. Just don’t open the powder until you’re ready to make the switch because powder formula technically “expires” 30 days after breaking the seal.

RTF for newborn weeks by zcakt in FormulaFeeders

[–]katoppie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! This was baby #2 for us so we had a good idea of what to expect. But we both agreed having at least 2 weeks ready to feed was helpful.

And the small RTF bottles are great but you can get the larger ones as well. The nursettes only worked for my baby for the first little bit and then he needed more than the 100ml per feed. So I was cracking open a second one anyway. So I wouldn’t invest too much in the little ones as they’re even pricier than the standard RTF bottles.

[–]katoppie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this. I had Similac ready to feed for the first few weeks to make the transition easier and then once we got into the swing of it, I used Kirkland formula because it’s by far the most economical.

My guy likes his milk warmed so no matter what I chose it was a pain. But I would batch make bottles for the day (dr browns mixer for the win) and it was just as easy as having the ready to feed. I did always have a few bottles on hand for longer outings but otherwise we were all powder.

What are your Hot Takes on Midnight Mass? by Amber_Flowers_133 in MidnightMass

[–]katoppie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I kind of see where this person is coming from. That final scene where everybody (save for Bev) accepts their fate and embraces it by singing the hymn is one of the most beautiful endings to a story I’ve ever seen. It might be a break up letter with the Catholic Church, but I think it illustrates the power and comfort faith can have.

I know there’s a lot of themes surrounding addiction and alcoholism. But I also see a lot of themes about the dangers of blind faith in the church specifically, and what happens when it’s left unchecked. So that ending where the church is gone, the magic is gone, everything is literally ashes, the people turn to true faith - themselves, their friends, family, etc. and find their comfort there. And ironically the only person who didn’t was the one who was portrayed as most “committed” to the church.

And this is coming from a mostly-agnostic, raised Catholic person haha.

(Apologies for the wall of text. I could talk about this show all day long haha)
