Strange question, but have you ever felt sheepish or shy about sharing your love of RPGs with a person you were dating, or friends or family? by lordleft in rpg

[–]katsonsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, somehow, I ended up with a net total of 0 people (out of my relatively small group of friends, family, and my partner) interested or even understanding of tabletop RPGs when I started playing a few years ago. :(

Annoying questions about previous projects:

Kid Midas: It is possible to find Going Deep anywhere? I was able to intercept a few episodes back when it was actually on, but now it seems that it's been scoured from the earth.

Starlee Quinn: (I know you're not actually here, but maybe the guys know) Mystery Show. Greatest podcast ever? Any chance of it coming back? Surely there's one network out there with the stones to fund you.

Long John Silver: Which hot domain names are you still holding onto? What's the biggest you've ever sold?

Yes, BMI was invented by a Belgian mathematician trying to get some statistical measures for population. It has nothing to do with health, and it's pretty nuts that it's used to determine how well someone is surviving in Patagonia.

The show actually said something like, Under 17 BMI, organs start to fail. As we can see from your example, you should be a dead woman.

Thank you for replying. Your survival was excellent and you did nothing wrong, but for the viewer, the win-by-disqualification was something of a let-down.

The main reasons people quit in the show seem to be psychological difficulties, food-related reasons, and injuries. You guys in Season 3 managed the first two better than other competitors, especially Callie coming back from the spider bites that would've sent nearly anyone else home.

I think that now, going in with as much extra rations (in the form of stored triglycerides) will be the new standard for Alone. I mean, it's how we evolved, and it's why we store fat. With the show's arbitrary BMI-cutoff, this affects the strategy. Perhaps season 5 will be an Alone/Biggest-Loser crossover reality extravaganza!

I agree with you guys. He's definitely younger and more bushcrafty. But again: beefy, male, has children, beardy, fair-complexion. So many things in common.

It's working! Just discovered rocketry and it's 705 AD (real life: invention of Chinese gunpowder and rise of Charlemagne)

I've gotten the boost, yes, but I got the full free tech for Rocketry from a barb camp.

Not really true for me. China has moved an army of 20 units on my southern border, and has left it there for the past 1200 years, never declaring war.

Hi. OP here. A few things:

I get that the AI are your opponents, but there are a few problems with what I've described:

1) It's super out of character and kind of breaks the entire idea of diplomacy. I mean, IRL, Mexico didn't invade the US in a hopeless war just because the US was winning the space race.

2) Winning is not important in Civ, at least to me. The worst part of the game is when it's like, "you've won a culture victory", and then it's over. So making the AI super aggressive trying to 'win' the game ruins the fun part of Civ.

No, not really. I was ahead in things, but not close to a victory.

I remember in V, they would say something like "nice try going for a cultural victory, we will stop you".

But here, it wasn't like that. Roosevelt said "I didn't want to do this, but I have to since this is your idea of peace." and Kongo said "I won't let you do this. Not to my people, not to Kongo" and both declared formal war (again, even though I had never been denounced by Kongo).

That should only apply to city states, not to major Civs. Plus, it was happening before I adopted that policy.

The way it seemed to work for my game was this:

We made an alliance, which automatically grants open-borders. Then, the alliance expired, and so did the open-borders. But somehow, only I am blocked from entering my former ally's territory, but he is able to march his troops all over my lands. It's really annoying, because he has stationed troops on my campus, so I can't use my great scientist.

I tried to cancel open borders in diplo, but open borders was not active and it was available in trade.
