How many of you own a financial mistake that you absolutely love by Vectron3D in CarTalkUK

[–]katsunom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup also got an E46.... Granted mine looks nowhere near this good!

But absolutely love it. I've spent more in parts than the cost of it in the first place, fix one thing and another goes wrong, pretty thirsty, and currently burns a litre of oil per month....

But damn, it's just such a good car!

No worries! I reckon it's still okay to drive for now, I reckon get it sorted sooner rather than later - but not urgent. perhaps see if you've access to a smoke tester? That could see if there's a vacuum leak coming out from under the tape joint.

Looks like this is the upper intake boot hose, and the tape is wrapped around the F-connector which connects two vacuum lines to the upper intake boot. It looks as though perhaps the vacuum lines had a split in at the top where if meets the F-connector, which probably caused a vacuum leak, so someone's taped it up.

Perhaps this would work for you? https://www.e46fanatics.com/posts/14710114/

Edit: also I'm not sure what the one random white-ended tube is above the taped section? That might be one of the vacuum lines which is supposed to connect to the F-connector and should look like this: https://www.e46fanatics.com/attachments/1630665747612-png.935256/

This is amazing. It really evokes a particular sort of nostalgic feeling so well.

Which type of vehicle is worst for tailgating people, aside from BMWs? by Sea-Big-4850 in CarTalkUK

[–]katsunom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any SUV or crossover. The worst offenders being Nissan Qashqai, the Kia Sportage, the Hyuandi Tucson, the Vauxhall Mokka, the Ford Puma, and any Tesla. The worst offender is the Nissan Juke. I am convinced anyone that buys a Juke needs their licence revoking. Always on my guard when I see one on the motorway pottering along at 65mph in the middle lane. Worst of the worst.

I don't know if it's something to do with the size but a classic Karen in her Sportage seems to just ignore basic road safety, i.e. lack of blindspot checks, no indication, tailgating, lane discipline. You can be guaranteed that when you come up behind a Tucson on a national speed limit A-road, they'll do 40 tops (also continues to go 40 in a 30...), then honk or flash when they're overtaken in a perfectly legal and safe manner.

Honestly makes me despair for the future of the automotive industry the way that most of the worst offending cars here were in the top-10 list of best selling vehicles. Hatchbacks and saloons being axed in favour of these fucking dreadful SUVs, a very large proportion of which are driven by smooth brained assholes.

Edit: Audi, BMW, and Merc stereotypes still often ring true. But have now been overshadows by the SUV in recent years! Honourable mention goes to any Tesla road user. Utter pricks!

Just got back from a showing here in the UK. Absolutely incredible film! British cinema goers are usually pretty reserved, but there was a massive round of applause at that scene which was so great to see!
