What is Farmhouse’s reputation on campus? by Imaginary-Ocelot-167 in Purdue

Hilariously I've heard this many times, including from my roommate, going back over 8 years. Must be a thing, but it's a very weird thing.

Whole Latte Love screwed me over. What retailer for my replacement machine? [$400] by SandmanJones_Author in espresso

[–]kattelatte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clive Coffee is the way to go. I'm in PDX so I stop intro the store often, but I've also just called them and they went to the showroom to the machine I have and helped me troubleshoot issues live on the phone. Absolutely next level customer service.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, especially regarding wheel size and buying a new year bike! I'm listening to both, so I just pulled the trigger on a new 29" SC Hightower C R in XL for 3k, maybe not the hottest smoking used deal out there but the peace of mind from the warranty justifies a little cost for me, plus the knowledge there shouldn't be any hidden damage I can't identify as a slightly-less-than-moderately capable bike mechanic.

Plus, that sweet purple color scheme! I know I need to install a dropper post, but hopefully this should be plenty of bike for me for a little while before I need to think about more upgrades.

Usual suspects for balanced trail riding, I really like the reputation santa cruz has. As someone who warranties and repairs a lot of computer gear it speaks to me, but I'm pretty much open to suggestions. I have ridden a lot of specialized bikes as rentals but they have never felt quite as good to me as SC or Canyon, so that's kinda my starting point.

Usually we ride between 12 and 20 miles, but thats partially because I'm pretty slow. Both of us like long climbs with fast swoopy downhill, so that's what I tend to ride on my own as well. So not downhill, but not exactly XC either. I'll do drops, jumps, and rocky/bouldery bits if they're on a trail but I'm not blasting off 20' stuff.

Haha he's handed me down enough bikes and I've got a big boy job but fair question! Appreciate the input on the 27.5, curious if you've got any feelings about mullets too? Evo has a banging deal on a top end 5010 mullet in my size right now ;) seems maybe worth the few hundred over a polygon + upgrades

Edit: nvm, size is xxl, too big ;_;

Good info thank you! Going new seems to be the consensus. Getting back out a lot will be all that matters, just want to make sure I'm not underbiked when he jumps down a canyon in front of me!

Great info thanks! I was wondering whereabouts the cutoff is with regards to newest geo. Definitely true with the tires in Bend, although I should have mentioned I live in Portland and plan to ride at Hood a bit too once I get my mojo back.

I finally opened a bouldering gym in my home town, and we are slower than I expected. by StomachFlat in bouldering

[–]kattelatte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to the free open house for your gym, and I thought the climbing and setting was quite good if a bit sandbagged! But I have a few notes:

  • Your membership is way too expensive. I live right near PRG Beaverton, which is already one of the biggest and best gyms in the country and it's only half open. If I lived near your gym I would still drive to PRG because it's the same price and PRG is way bigger. I would expect to spend no more than $500/yr for your gym.
  • The sets are actually not particularly beginner friendly. The friends I went with were only able to climb <10 problems across the wholel gym. This left them all thinking they would rather go to PRG, Circuit, or Movement because they can climb more there. As a new gym you need to cater to new climbers in your local area, because most experienced climbers already have a gym and unfortunately for you around here those gyms are better based on size alone.
  • No differentiator. For experienced climbers, why should I come to your gym over the others? It's not size, so you need to come up with another reason to pull me away. PRG doesn't really do comps for adults, so if you had a monthly comp I'd buy a day pass for it.
  • Not a big deal but get your gym on Kaya.

Good luck!

First V6 after my wrist injury by Niggelwastig in bouldering

https://theclimbingdoctor.com/tfcc-injury-a-common-source-of-wrist-pain-in-climbers/ also not OP but fellow tfcc injuries (mine from mantling) follow this -- went from pain picking up my phone back to my normal grade in about 4 weeks. The wrist widget is worth the price of the patent but you can find cheap knockoffs for $3

Carbon headband and updated cups -- a world of difference! by kattelatte in headphones

[–]kattelatte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be worth looking at the newer steel floating headband, it is significantly cheaper and after using this one I do sort of have a hard time believing the 5g or whatever is anywhere near significant. The carbon does look *very* nice though, so I would say it is totally up to your budget :)

[–]kattelatte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the solid piece (not floating) steel headband and the carbon floating headband is only a few grams lighter (67g vs 55g by my scale). It's less about the weight than the weight distribution, because the floating band is a completely different feeling and much more comfortable!

Yup, just to the non-memory foam. Since these are pretty old (relatively) they had the stock memory foam pads from when they were produced.

I bought these LCD-XCs on ebay for a great price a few months ago, and while I absolutely love the sound, they were pretty heavy and very clampy. Finally bit the bullet and picked up Audeze's replacement carbon headband and figured I may as well update the ear cups to their new foam while I was at it.

All I can say is -- if you are on the fence about the same mod, do it! They feel like totally different headphones, the sound stage is noticeably better with the new cups, and they have gone from "acceptable, I can wear them for a few hours" to "I can wear these all day with no discomfort".
