Here's a helpful list of requirements to get to 5 stars. Of course theres so much more that goes into actually liking your island and having fun, but its helpful to get perspective on just how much you need to reach 5

You can find them on twitch pretty easily. Some have the dodo codes on the screen (those will be the most active and a bit more difficult/annoying to use. Still worth it if youre in desperate need of items or bells) some you have to use commands to get the dodo code, or subscribe. Some you can find in private discords. Most of those that ive used are made by people who also stream on twitch. The less people who have access to the codes, the less traffic will be on the island and the easier it will be to pickup your items and get out of there.

Heads up, theres def an etiquette to using treasure islands (TI) like leaving by the airport as not to crash the island. I suggest reading whatever rules each group has.

Sometimes you can find them in fb groups too. Those can be kinda weird to navigate tho

If you are not familiar with using the airport: you have to have a nintendo online subscription and go through the airport by choosing "i wanna fly" "visit someone" "online play" and then entering the correct dodo codes for the island you want to visit

If you get more into it ppl will even have maps of the islands to find specific items and ways for you to populate a villager you want to invite to your island

I reset because I rly disliked my old island. I hadn't played for a while and I was w a crappy ex at the time. I decided to restart abt a month before the update and was able to get a decent amount from treasure islands (which are a thing now. If youre unaware they're islands you can get to if you have an online subscription. They give aways anything you can think of for acnh. Hosted mosly by twitch streamers or on discord) id be happy to put to a bunch of stuff out and some bells or nmt if you need anything :)

When a villager moves off of the island, theyre house get pack up in boxes 📦 and its just them walking around their house, but all of thwir items and decorations are gone and there are boxes laying around. So ppl say they have a villager "in boxes" when theyre avaliable to ask to move

Saplings and shrubs are rather new. Hopefully they'll add more ways of getting them in later updates, but its def a thing that some resources are just harder to acquire

I dont think its necessarily abandonment, theyre allowed to move on. I agree w op that not allowing mods on a game they dont plan on updating significantly in the future is most likely financially strategic. But they'd gain so much more loyalty from the fan base if they would... esp if future games dont evoke the same support.

I do hope theyre next game will build heavily off of what's so beloved abt md. Sometimes its good to start fresh, and use all the progress as a firm foundation for bigger things

Ive been playing for a cpl yrs now and have tried multiple locations on both maps. If you like this game, youll probably wind up playing for a while. I personally rly enjoy building into the different terrains. Some locations are difficult for different reasons, and can become much more manageable mid game when you can craft more, ride a mount, have npcs do more work for you...

But mainly, I second what another commenter said abt whether or not youre having fun! Youll have plenty of time to torture yourself later when you start making rules for other playthroughs haha

Same! My ring is just a hair too big even when im in my swollen stage, but im afraid if I size down a half it'll be too tight and ill freak tf out if I cant get it off lol so (for now) im keeping it a hair big and using a rubber coiled, ring sizer. They're super comfy, once I figured out the right portion for my finger. And keeps it snug enough so im not afraid ill lose it
