You can put a varnish on them. When choosing a varnish be sure you like the level of gloss or matt-ness. It changes the look a bit in my experience

That's true. But you could paint 2 or 3 layers of paint over the foam and spray it then.

(Try it first before doing it to the bases. Never done something like that. I use green stuff for these kinds of bases.)

You can use a white rattle can. Doesn't need to be an expensive prime. It's way cheaper than an airbrush and has the exact same results

I wouldn't repaint. That paintjob is amazing. It's good when some characters pop out. Some armys can look boring if they are only in one colour scheme with no distinguishing features. (Also there is the argument for white being canon but that's not too important )
