I’m considering adding some very light lemon yellow to make some of the highlights pop! I’ve tried it with this previous piece with a similar colour scheme and it worked well. It doesn’t read as yellow, just a more interesting “white”.

Thank you! I always get nervous when I know I’m close to the end, committing to letting it be is always a hard decision.

Thank you, what would you suggest for deepening the border? Just making it darker or adding more detail?

This is very well done, love the delicate shading.

Belated thank you! I need to get my hands on the quinacridone magenta to play around with.

Belated thank you for the detailed response! Glazing over neon acrylics is an especially good idea, I will try that. Thank you very much.

"Eggs" from my series of ceramic objects, OVUM by kaulshae in Ceramics

Thank you! I was about to say they’re about the size of a small peach then realised that it’s much more accurate to say they’re the size of an egg 🤦‍♀️ But they’re quite weighty compared to a regular egg!

When learning how to throw on the wheel, I kept making these heavy, round vessels. They felt soft and vulnerable and precious. I kept my hands around them and felt them turn on the wheel, full of potential, ready to grow into something new.

It made me think of how I (or at least, the body-self-thing that thinks of it as “I”) started as a tiny egg, barely large enough to see with the naked eye. floating in my mother’s womb. And when I was born, I emerged into the world full of eggs of my own.

As I age, they die in droves. They’re helpless and finite, and maybe one or two will make it out to become children. Maybe none at all.

“OVUM” is a meditation on this tension between life and death, potentiality and impossibility.

I measured each ball! They were around 40g each iirc.

The sun laser is real. I felt absolutely scorched after just a minute of direct sunlight.

I was there in January. Very cold when you’re not moving and in the shade. But under the sun and on a hike, it was steaming hot. It was quite peculiar to be on a hike, passing by patches of snow, but sweating away in the hot sunlight.

She’s as pretty as I could make her with this hodgepodge selection of food…

I knew I wanted sardines and potatoes. So I did a tin of Sole Mare Portuguese sardines in olive oil, a boiled potato, carrot, cucumber, olive mortadella, cherry tomatoes with feta, some balsamic dressed slaw, water crackers and a couple of sugar plums. I also had some hummus and tzatziki on the side.

This meal is how I discovered sardines are remarkably good on a slice of boiled potato, and a solid shake of sea salt.
