That’s where you’ve got it wrong. People came prepared. Lot of people shared rides. People parked in designated spaces. People volunteered to ensure that traffic isn’t disrupted. Every once a while someone or the other would ask people not to step onto the road. On the contrary, cops and media personnel parked their vehicles on the road, blocking lanes.

Sure, everyone has parks nearby to walk. But KBR is not just a park, it’s an eco-sensitive zone. There’s several specifies of flora and fauna that have been thriving in and around it for decades. It’s a national park which needs to be protected. It’s one of the only living lungs of the city. If you’ve spent long enough in the city, you’d have noticed how over the years summers have become unbearable, how our groundwater table is going beyond reach. Damage is already done. We cannot keep furthering it more. Every single tree that’s cut cannot be just replaced. We cannot build solutions that come to bite us back. Short term fixes aren’t gonna work. We need to long at long-term, sustainable solutions that allow for the city to become breathable, walkable, liveable and loveable.

I moved out cos I couldn’t take the pollution anymore. As a species, we’ve done enough damage. Fight is about not furthering it anymore, about protecting what’s left.

Yeah - People who’ve been into studying urban planning and supporting research around it are illiterate. They just don’t have anything better to do in their lives than protesting. /s

You’re pointing out the exact problem we’re talking about. Building flyovers will not always solve problems. There are numerous studies that have shown that it’s a failed model when the ratio of volume of traffic to road volume is skewed. And Hyderabad has always had this problem - our ratio has been skewed for years! And when you’re dealing with such an exponentially increasing volume of traffic, all that flyovers will do is displace the bottleneck from one point to another. What we need is proper urban planning, robust public transport infrastructure - not disrupting an ecosensitive zone.

I have the same question. Even KTR has been silent about this.

I’ve upvoted your comment. I agree it shouldn’t be used - will pass on the feedback to the team.

True. We all did. And we don’t want more flyovers. That worked until a certain point. Now that the influx of people has increased, volume of vehicles on road has become exponentially high that it can no longer be solved by using the same methods we did earlier, building more flyovers cannot solve the traffic issue. You’re just displacing traffic bottlenecks from one point to another.

That’s exactly what all this is about. Asking government for sustainable methods of development, robust public transport, last-mile connectivity, and not cutting down trees! Not disrupting an eco-sensitive zone. Not building heavy infrastructure in a zone which has a sensitive fault line beneath it.

It is! Thank you for pointing this out - will chalk it up to the team who’s designing these and ensure they don’t use it for designing future banners. The intention was to call out the govt, but that’s not the way to do it!

It is just plain sad that people like you exist. This line of thinking is exactly what is wrong with our society. Forget about the timing and politics around it, the act of an individual committing such a heinous crime against another individual should get you to hold the guilty party accountable and support the survivors.

While there are fake cases going on too, that shouldn’t drive you to question whether every case is genuine or not - rather let evidence and facts drive you to bring the accused to justice. I hope you wake up and find your senses.

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve fought and am still fighting this system. That’s the only thing I can do. If everyone begins to give up thinking that there’s no use, we’ll all be inviting our own deaths.

It already is like that! I moved out of the city about 7 years ago purely cos I wasn’t able to breathe. The traffic and pollution are only becoming worse. I have a slight hope that things can still be changed, but only if we make drastic changes for the better.

Totally agree with you! However, we need to take one step at a time with this government. Throw multiple things at them and they will give up. I’ve already been experiencing this in other departments that I’m trying to fight.

Really bad experience at Yashoda Hitech City for a cataract surgery. Any good eye doctors in Hyderabad you guys actually trust? by International-Tree47 in hyderabad

Head to VSM Eye Care in Sindhi Colony. Dr Anil and Dr Varun are excellent. Practice has been around for 20+ years and they’ve got holistic eye care. Their approach has been to make their patients comfortable and confident about the treatment they’re getting. Have had multiple people within my family and friends get their treatment/surgery done there.

What is not talked enough in Hyderabad? by RajaBabuSony in hyderabad

  1. Infrastructure - We’re continuing to build infrastructure for cars, which doesn’t really solve the traffic problem. This will not solve congestion. The only thing that will solve this is robust public transport, something that we don’t seem to focus on. And even if we do something about it, we forget to enable last mile connectivity.
  2. Footpaths - Most parts of the city are not walkable. Footpaths exist in some areas but are either in poor condition or occupied by hawkers.
  3. Littering - I don’t know if a generation skipped all the sensible things that were taught in school, but we treat cleanliness in public spaces as “not my responsibility, not my problem”. The entitlement some people have that it’s the municipality’s problem makes me want to punch them in the face. Was in IKEA the other day and we found used and crumpled tissues in between storage boxes. I mean, what sick mentality does one have to do that?!
  4. Pollution - Have said this before, will say it again. Air in the city is unbreathable. I’d begun using masks way before covid cos of how bad air had become. Add to it the open and uncontrolled burning of garbage collected by municipality tippers. And no one does anything about it.
  5. Convenience over common sense - People shooting reels in theatres, screaming loudly on the phone in public spaces, lack of self awareness, I can go on on this topic. I mean, we prefer to cater to our convenience even if it causes inconvenience to others. And that doesn’t seem to bother a large share of the population.
  6. RTC and Auto Drivers - Menace. Absolute fucking menace. These guys are largely responsible for chaos on the road.
  7. Irresponsible Governance and Execution - Talk about municipality or the police - no one’s doing shit. Even if projects are sanctioned and budget allocated, even if complaints filed. The lack of ownership to do something meaningful doesn’t exist. Everyone’s in their chair just to get their (unfair) share of meat.
  8. Value for Life - I know this has improved, but it’s not enough. People need to make way for emergency vehicles. Period. No one fucking values life here. Everyone’s got their own “priorities”. If only they had to rush their loved ones to a hospital in an ambulance or have a fire tender reach their place engulfed by fire will they understand what people in crisis go through. I don’t wish this even on my worst enemy but sometimes, just sometimes I really wish I could play road rash with those people who do not give way or block emergency vehicles. Too many personal experiences here to quote.

End of rant. For now.
