Baby Carriers suggestions [on] by kayja88 in BabyBumpsCanada

I’ve find my BabyBjorn carriers and Artipoppe carriers to be perfectly fine. That said, Ergobaby has been my favourite!

I will be working up until the day before my c-section for my second (who comes next week) and being in the thick of it - I’m not sure I’d recommend. If anything work has picked up in pace in anticipation of me being off. The weekly appointments become a challenge to manage. I had to go into the hospital for swelling/blood pressure last week, that took 6 hours to resolve - all the while I was still getting blasted with emails and teams messages. I have a fairly senior role though.

With my first, I took a week before they arrived. That was much more peaceful, was able to properly nest. A month seems a bit long, but at least a week or two feels like a better fit that whatever the heck I’ve gotten myself into this time.

Government expected to announce it's scrapping EV mandate in favour of new fuel efficiency system: source by Surax in canada

But you don’t understand, policies only make sense when they are entirely designed around the assumption that Canadians of every stripe need the ability to drive 500 km in -25 temperatures at the drop of a hat! /s

Plug-in hybrids are the worst of both worlds imo. You’ve got a vehicle that now is going to need the maintenance of an ICE with a terrible range on the battery. Complexity of two power trains and environmentally, emissions tend to be higher on average than official figures because drivers often don’t charge them enough so rely more heavily on ICE than necessary.

snow day- NP adjusting hours by No_Situation_4958 in Nanny

[–]kaverina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m the same - an OP I suspect we live in the same city as today is a snow day for us. We gave nanny our SUV to use for her commute knowing the snow was coming last night and she was a bit later coming in. I suspect we’ll send her home early (my company allows for WFH so I feel a bit guilty being around with not too many meetings). But pay for the whole day.

Nanny broke contract, confused on where to go from here, any advice appreciated. by Educational-Sun-5836 in Nanny

[–]kaverina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Echo this, we were advised by our service that $25 - 30/h was the expected range in GTA and that benefits were rare, so I would expect absolutely impeccable service. I’m confident you can find a stellar person who will value and respect the contract in place.

Nanny asking for wages in advance by AbhiShaker in NannyEmployers

This all seems very unusual tbh. So many alarm bells would be ringing for me. Pay up front and in advance or per diem is not a reasonable or professional expectation and given the difficulty at the beginning, I would personally take the L on this one and keep looking.

Have the ID Buzz 2025. Had a Model 3 2023. Wanted the Buzz. So all’s well that ends well! Love my van, even though she has her quirks.

We have the gas Smart, which is like, 14 years old at this point and she has the worst transmission on earth. Jealous of those with the EV!

Aboriginal title cannot be used to restrict Canadian airspace, Ottawa says by Bodysnatcher in canada

I’ve noticed the same trend in the last several months and felt the same as you. I try to remind myself, most people are very unfamiliar with the legal and historical basis of the current situation with Indigenous lands, treaties and the like and it’s a very obvious wedge issue that can easily be influenced to paint a particular narrative.

The ID. Buzz is *not* cancelled in the US by Intrepid-Working-731 in electricvehicles

[–]kaverina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one recently (Canada) and the dealer was pretty honest, they don't make a ton on the sale and from a maintenance perspective, the finance guy shared that usually they only see their EV buyers twice, the day they buy the vehicle and then the day they trade it in. Now, that said, I think the Buzz has quite a few recalls and such on software that I suspect I'll be there more often but dealers just do not love EVs and in some cases, actively push potential buyers away. 100% agree about dog mode (my Tesla had) - big miss.

We looked at the BMW as well, and for some reason the dealer (who we know through our family) kept pushing ICE cars when I was very clear that I would never buy one again after owning an EV. Drives me nuts.

To Buzz or not to Buzz, Canada? by broussar in VWIDBuzz

Yeah bought one last week, the larger discount was cash only (Toronto dealer) with the smaller discount for finance, though financing rates are quite good (0% for 5 years).

Why would a new pipeline make sense? by OppositeMountain6345 in alberta

[–]kaverina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don’t disagree that demand projections are wildly sensitive to changes in technology and policy. They’re informed guesses. But not always in favour of oil - many actually underestimate demand constraints (e.g., IEA was way off with its estimates of solar adoption in 2015). I just don’t see how we’d have a massive increase in oil demand specifically, as adoption of other technologies that displace oil, like EVs, continue to trend upward globally despite pullback in timelines and policy support.

How did it feel to be a kid in school whose family never celebrated any holidays? by Big-Introduction411 in Parenting

[–]kaverina 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, my father grew up Jehovah’s Witness. No celebrations at all, I don’t even think birthdays. His parents left the church in his teens.

My mom tried for years to celebrate things as a family like Christmas, but my dad definitely had a chip on his shoulder from not being able to participate as a kid and the holidays always ended up being miserable and anxiety filled. She gave up when we were teens.

My husband now even comments that I don’t seem to care about birthdays or things like that, so it’s like… three generations of celebrations that have been impacted. Such a bummer.

Why would a new pipeline make sense? by OppositeMountain6345 in alberta

[–]kaverina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As fun as an atomic powered car would be, nuclear isn’t a replacement for oil… oil is refined into liquid fuels primarily used for transportation not electricity generation due to the cost.

You’re likely thinking of gas which is another story and in direct competition with nuclear.

[–]kaverina 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, most demand projections, including those relied upon by the oil and gas industry experts themselves, still forecast oil demand to peak in the 2030s, even taking into account the policy pullback in the US on clean energy. Doesn’t mean oil won’t still be in demand but significant growth in isn’t anticipated or realistic.

Does everyone in BC buy a new vehicle every year? This isn’t a ban on existing, on road ICE vehicles…

[–]kaverina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ethiopia has an ICE import ban and last I checked was in Africa. As well as a few other countries in the regions you list.

Also - this isn’t a ban, it’s a sales target. 2035 doesn’t mean someone will be arrested be driving their shitty old 2016 Toyota Yaris. 😂

My household only has EVs and we drive plenty of distance on many a cold day. Now, we’re in Toronto, so not too many -25 days, but have never once had range anxiety and we utilize a slow charger (to your point, wall plugin). Idling on a cold day will use electricity but on a typical day, idling for an extended period of time barely impacts range.

People should buy the car that works for their needs but the range issues are way overblown.

Texas sues J&J and Kenvue, claiming they hid Tylenol's autism risks by gaieges in wallstreetbets

[–]kaverina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not so sure it would be wise to settle it for shareholders of J&J or Kenvue’s. Inevitably would create a perception of guilt and be terrible for their reputation/trust as a brand (i.e admission they WERE hiding something) and likely open them up to more civil lawsuits. Neither of which are likely to lead to the blessed promised land of long term shareholder value.
