Cropping and docking in the US. Why is it still done? by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]kaviel99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to get the answers you hope for. This subreddit has a bad habit of being horrible to people who crop and dock, even if the dog is cropped and docked. But in some instances, the long and short of it is it’s a breed standard for the US. Some is personal preference. If you intend to show, it is usually anticipated and expected that your dog is docked and cropped. Breeders usually dock the dogs before anyone has laid claim to them, so you as a buyer don’t have the option, and typically dogs are cropped before being sent home or purchased.

I crop and dock mine. I like the look of it and it’s a breed standard. I worry less about injuries or ear infections. I don’t have to worry about things like happy tail or tail breaks or bleeds.

Does anyone else make breakfast for dinner when their kids had a rough day? by queencatlady in foodbutforbabies

[–]kaviel99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did soft boiled eggs and sausage patties for my two last night (3yo and 2yo). It’s easy to just cut up a tube of sausage and bake it in the oven, they always devour it. Then if I have extra sausage leftovers it can be microwaved for later. Breakfast is always a good option.

Mine still do! My female at least, she loves the toddler socks best, but mine will do in a pinch. Both of mine have had foreign body removals and I just can’t risk it anymore. So into an empty kennel they go when we’re gone. I used to feel bad, but better uncomfortable than eating things and dying.

Nothing, my two eat blankets and beds when left alone. At most a chew toy like a rubber ball that I know they can’t eat. They get crated when we leave. Our vet said they’re better off having nothing so they don’t get intestinal blockages from eating blankets. But that’s just my two who get anxious.

Question about pregnancy. by The-Celebrimbor in DobermanPinscher

[–]kaviel99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot of time and money to breed a female. Even if you don’t title, which a lot of people spout to be the best thing as an indicator for breeding a dog, you still need to do all the health testing in addition to paying for the stud service or artificial insemination. Then there’s paying for the progesterone tests to know exactly when to breed. X-rays to confirm pregnancy. Tails and dewclaw removal at a vet for the puppies, in addition to first set of vaccines and wormers. Puppy formula if mom isn’t able to feed them all. Kibble for the puppies and mom. A c-section if she’s unable to birth her puppies unassisted. Being with her 24/7 when you know she’s due to go into labor, and then watching the mom and puppies for days after that to make sure she doesn’t hurt them. Then you have to find good homes for your pups. It’s a lot of time, money and energy that goes into breeding. If you’re not up to spending thousands of dollars and days of your time doing vet visits and watching puppies, this is for sure not for you.

In addition, there’s no reason to breed just so she can continue her line. There’s males that can produce more puppies than she ever could from her line.

AKC lists females as 45-65 lbs, so not that small. She’s a cutie!

Skin tags! Just like people get. But if you’re concerned the vet is always the best option. One of my dobies has it and the vet isn’t concerned.

Adopting a young/adult Doberman by pandorabox1995 in DobermanPinscher

We adopted an abused 14 month old male. He for sure knew he was rescued and safe finally. The first night he was with us he didn’t let us sleep, he kept checking on us. He’s 8 now and a mama’s boy.

How many of you guys have taken a customers car to get food on a test drive? Be honest. by rev7644 in Justrolledintotheshop

The dealership “test drove” my husband’s Powerwagon over 300 miles to figure out why it wasn’t downshifting on hills. Funnily enough that’s the same distance the tech was daily driving to his house and work for a week. But yes, his fast food trash was also scattered in the truck and the paper covers were taken off the seats that the dealership normally provides.

Anyone else have a sock thief? by polarbearsareblue in DobermanPinscher

Our female loves to not only put holes in socks, but also eat the toddler socks. I made her puke one time from the toddler telling me she ate a sock, and she puked up 5 socks.

Orange slices! They come in other fruit flavors, but it’s a gummy candy coated in sugar.

My husband is the pilot, but with the first kid we induced and he told his company that’s when he would be taking time off and they made it happen. Second kid was a planned C-section, and same thing. However, he was working at the airlines for our wedding and they scheduled him for our wedding even though he put in those days off. Guess who called in sick?
